A spirited Chelsea, reduced to ten men, managed to draw 1–1 with Arsenal in a fiery London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Chelsea went ahead just after halftime when Trevoh Chalobah flicked a header into the net from a precise corner by captain Reece James — a goal made all the more dramatic because midfielder Moisés Caicedo had been sent off in the 38th minute for a reckless tackle.
Arsenal fought back, and in the 59th minute, Mikel Merino met a cross from Bukayo Saka to level the match. Despite the numerical advantage, the Gunners could not find a winner, with Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez making several crucial saves.
Chelsea captain Reece James hailed his team’s resilience, saying: “We went down to 10 men pretty early in the game and that made it more difficult.” Meanwhile, Merino acknowledged Chelsea’s defensive quality: “They were well structured, they know how to defend, they have good quality players.”
The draw leaves Arsenal five points clear atop the Premier League — sitting on 30 points — with Chelsea third on 24. The result maintains the intense rivalry between the two London clubs and underlines Chelsea’s fighting spirit despite the setback.
