The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze has called on government at different levels as well as well meaning Nigerians to renew their commitments to honour Nigeria’s fallen heroes and veterans with their resources and good welfare packages, noting that they are the reason we enjoy a strong and united country today.
In his tribute to members of the Nigerian Legion and Ex- service men who served the country with their might and eventually paid the supreme price, Rt. Hon. Udeze lauded the efforts of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who left the comfort of their homes in defense of the country, reminding the people that the freedom and peace they enjoy today were paid for with the blood and toll of the ex-service men, and urged Nigerians to emulate such sacrifice, bravity and patriotism.
The Speaker who commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his continuous support to the State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, enjoined affluent citizens to commit part of their resources to ensure a better life for the legionaries as well as their family members as a memorial for the contributions and selfless service they rendered for the corporate existence of the country as a sovereign nation.
Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day gives Nigerians the opportunity to appreciate men and women who constitute the Armed Forces Community, ranging from those currently serving, retired veterans to those undergoing various trainings, urging the masses to see the peace, unity and development of the country as a collective responsibility devoid of tribe, religion or political affinity.
While praying for the repose of the souls of the Soldiers and Civilians who lost their lives in defense of the country, Udeze encouraged those who are still in active service to copy from the fallen heroes and ex-service men.
