# Ufuma Community in Orumba North LGA, Anambra State, was agog recently, during the annual celebration of ”Oriri ngwucha aho ovume” where several distinguished personalities were recognized and honoured with chieftaincy titles.

Among those honoured was the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, who was conferred with the title of Ugo Mmuta (Rising eagle of knowledge and inspiration) by HRH, Igwe S. Chika Uchime, Diji III of Ufuma.

The honour conferred on the Rector, it was gathered, was in recognition of her ‘transformative leadership through infrastructural renewal and institutional revitalisation’ at Federal Polytechnic Oko, Ufuma Campus.

While bestowing the title, HRH Igwe Uchime, described Dr. Awuzie as an uncommon achiever, a Rector with a difference and a woman who deserved to be honoured for her exceptional devotion to educational advancement and community development.

# The local government Chairman of
Orumba North, Capt. Casmir Nwafor (Rtd), has officially launched the Orumba North Mass Transit Scheme and commissioned multiple signature projects within the LGA Secretariat, Ajalli.

In his address, Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Alphonsus Ikwueto, commended the Mayor for his visionary leadership and people-centered governance, noting that the projects clearly reflect an administration committed to grassroots development.

Ikwueto applauded Mayor Nwafor for translating campaign promises into tangible achievements that directly impact the lives of ndi Orumba North.

In his remarks, Anambra State Chairman of APGA, represented by his Deputy, Hon. Paul Uzor, performed the tape-cutting ceremony and commissioned the newly completed Chairman’s Office.

APGA Chairman, praised Mayor Nwafor for prioritizing infrastructure that will enhance productivity and service delivery, describing the projects as evidence of purposeful leadership under the APGA-led government.

# The Anambra State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Charles Onubuogu, has lamented the high intake of hard drugs by youths in the state.

Onubuogu made the lamentation while speaking with a group of youths during an advocacy talk in Awka  recently.

He advised them that there was nothing beautiful about drug intake, insisting that people should develop the will power to reject it in totality, knowing that nothing rewarding came from it, but rather served as a killer pill.

# The Anambra State Police Command regrets the murder of the President General of the Ogidi community and one other person.

The incident, which occurred at the School Field, Ogidi, is allegedly linked to the recent capture and killing of a known notorious cultist within the community.

According to a press statement by SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command:

“Following the report, police operatives swiftly took over the scene of the incident and commenced investigations.

” The Command is currently working with eyewitness accounts and other available intelligence to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

“The Anambra State Police Command assures members of the public that all efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice. Residents are urged to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue”. Ikenga noted.

# Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), has reaffirmed its leadership role in teacher capacity development with the formal commencement of a training programme on Smart Interactive Board Usage for Effective Teaching and Learning.

Declaring the programme open, the Provost of the College, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, described the training as a strategic intervention aligned with the Education Reform Agenda of the Anambra State Government, particularly, the Smart Schools Initiative championed by the Governor under the guiding Philosophy of Technology Everywhere, Everything Technology.

The Provost said the programme went beyond the deployment of digital infrastructure, emphasizing that teachers remained the most critical drivers of meaningful educational transformation. She noted that technology could only deliver its intended impact when educators were adequately equipped with the skills, confidence, and pedagogical understanding to deploy it effectively in the classroom.

# The Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. (Mrs) Amaka Obi, on Saturday, led residents through a series of health, wellness, and fitness exercises aimed at promoting healthy living in the council area.

The regular Saturday workout session kick off from Nnobi through Awka-Etiti and Alor communities which drew a large crowd of enthusiastic residents who turned out to show their support for the initiative.

Speaking after the exercise, Mayor Amaka Obi emphasized the importance of regular exercise in maintaining good health, urging residents to make physical activity a part of their daily routine.

The Local Government boss also used the opportunity to promote the Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo Pet Project, an initiative of the Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye, aimed at improving health outcomes in the state.

# The Anambra State Police Command has expressed high optimism and readiness ahead of the forthcoming 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) with the theme, “Beyond the Badge: Excellence in Action”, scheduled to take place from 14 February 2026 in Asaba, Delta State.

This is even as officers of the Command are determined to represent the state and compete for laurels with great zeal.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, represented by the Command Management Team, at the Police Headquarters, Awka, hosted the respective strategic officers of the Command as well as select officers that would participate in the games.

The CP commended their steadfastness, discipline, and commitment, describing their dedication and optimism as a clear demonstration of excellence beyond routine policing duties.

# The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure makes an oversight visit to the Pal Junction–Oko–Ogboji connecting road and the Uga–Amesi–Akpo–Ogboji road.

Speaking during the inspection, the Committee Chairman, Engr. Emmanuel Nwafor said Governor Chukwuma Soludo is the best choice, citing the quality and pace of ongoing road projects across the state.

The Committee Chairman maintained that
work on the roads is progressing and noted that earlier drainage challenges had been addressed, adding that the road width, concrete mix and overall construction standards are being strictly adhered to.

Engr. Nwafor commended Governor Soludo for his commitment to road infrastructure development, describing the projects as a clear demonstration of his administration’s resolve to deliver durable and standard roads across Anambra State.

Also speaking, the member representing Aguata Constituency Two, Dr. Tony Muobike, said the projects clearly show that Governor Soludo remains the best option for Ndi Anambra, adding that the ongoing road construction reflects the fulfilment of the promises made by the Governor to the people.

On his part, the Project Manager handling the Oko–Ogboji road, Engr. Richard Krobakpo, disclosed that the project is about 60 percent completed, adding that initial security challenges had been successfully tackled, allowing work to continue unhindered.
