The Local Government Chairman of Dunukofia Area, Barrister Chijioke Ozumba have empowered over one thousand indigent women with financial support to boost their petty businesses.
Barr. Ozumba distributed the funds during the third edition of the Dunukofia Women August Summit held at the local government headquarters in Ukpo,
The local government chairman also extended financial support to all community women leaders in Dunukofia in appreciation of their contributions to the development of the local government and the Soludo-led administration.
The Dunukofia Mayor disclosed that his administration would, by November this year, commence the second phase of the economic empowerment programme, where over one thousand women would receive one hundred thousand naira each to support their petty businesses.
He commended the Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo initiative, the brainchild of Dr. Nonye Soludo, which is coordinated in Dunukofia by his wife, Mrs. Okwuchukwu Ozumba, for its support to his administration, and appreciated individuals and groups who contributed to the success of the programme.
In his remarks, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the 2027 Anambra Central Senatorial District election, Chief Dozie Nwankwo, applauded the unprecedented development recorded in Dunukofia Local Government Area under Barrister Ozumba’s leadership.
Honourable Nwankwo noted that the empowerment programme had helped to reduce poverty among women in the area, describing the initiative as a demonstration of commitment to the welfare of the people.
Also speaking, a community leader in Umunnachi, Chief Zimuzor Odogwu, said Ozumba had surpassed expectations by executing impactful projects across the six communities that make up Dunukofia Local Government Area.
Chief Odogwu highlighted some of the projects in Umunnachi community, including the construction of Afor-Igwe and Obiechi roads, as well as the fencing of Obiechi Primary School, among others.
