Actress Iyabo Ojo has pushed back against critics who accused her of political bias after a video of her at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) surfaced on social media, insisting she is ready to work with any political party.
The clip, which circulated widely online, showed Ojo in a candid conversation at the airport that some interpreted as a political statement, prompting backlash from users who claimed she was favouring one party over others.
Ojo, known for her outspoken presence on social media and in public life, addressed the controversy in a statement on Sunday. “I don’t belong to any political party,” she told followers, stressing her independence. “If I decide to support any party, it will be because I believe in its ideals, not because of any personal gain.”
The video triggered heated debate on platforms such as X and Instagram, with some accusing the actress of campaigning and others defending her right to personal expression.
In her clarification, Ojo said she has “friends in many parties” and that she maintains a neutral stance, adding: “I will work with anyone who genuinely wants the best for this country — that’s my priority.”
The actress also urged her critics to “focus on ideas” rather than personalities, stating that Nigerians should prioritise national development and unity over partisan attacks.
Her comments come at a time of increasing political engagement by public figures in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with celebrities frequently posting about political issues and aligning with various causes.
