# The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a significant milestone in personnel advancement as it celebrated the promotion of over three hundred officers to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
The decoration ceremony took place at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
Decorating the officers, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described the promotion as well-deserved and merit-based. He congratulated the newly promoted officers and charged them to rededicate themselves to professionalism, discipline, and quality service to the people of Anambra State.
The CP emphasized that promotion comes with greater responsibility, urging the officers to uphold the core values of the Force, maintain integrity, and sustain public trust in the discharge of their duties. He further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to boosting morale and enhancing operational efficiency through the recognition of hard work, dedication, and excellence.
In his vote of thanks, Assistant Superintendent of Police Eyam Osim, speaking on behalf of the newly decorated officers, expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector- General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 13, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, the Command’s Management Team, and the Police Service Commission for finding them worthy of the promotion.
# Following his supervision in Dunukofia LGA, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Barr. Vincent Ifeanyi Ezeaka, has asked the Mayor of the Council Area, Hon. Chijioke Ozumba, to direct all the workers who were absent from work to be reporting for duty in his office in Awka till further notice.
A release signed by the LGSC boss and made available to newsmen in Awka, stated:
‘I did a spot check/supervision of your Dunukofia LGA on Tuesday, 11th February, 2026 and met only 25 workers present and two HoDs present as at 11:00 am. This is out of 208 workers posted to your council.
‘My contact with the Mayor of the Local Government revealed that he was at the state House of Assembly with the HLGA, Treasurer, Internal Auditor, and HoD works.
‘You are directed to inform all the workers who were absent from duty on the 11th of February, 2026, to be reporting for duty in my office till further notice. Please be well guided,’ Barrister Ezeaka warned in the release.
# The Regent/Onowu of Umudioka, High Chief/Dr. Ben Amuta, alongside his cabinet and the entire Umudioka community, has congratulated the Mayor of Dunukofia LGA, Chijioke Ozumba Esq. on his victory at the just concluded APGA Chairmanship/Mayoral primaries.
In a congratulatory message issued under the auspices of the Igwe-in-Council, Umudioka, the community described the Mayor’s emergence as well-deserved and unsurprising, noting that he was unanimously endorsed by the six towns that make up Dunukofia LGA.
The message highlighted the Mayor’s dedication, resourcefulness, equity, and fairness as key attributes that earned him the overwhelming support. It further commended his performance in office, stating that he had delivered beyond expectations in both human capacity development and infrastructural advancement across the local government.
# The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has exhorted the students of St John Bosco Seminary, Isuaniocha, in Awka North LGA, to be studious, patient, and disciplined, if they intend to survive the rigorous and life-testing processes associated with priesthood, saying that the Diocese will not wish to produce what he termed, “had I known priests”, who, he says, will be full of regrets in their chosen path.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who stated that the Seminary remained a formation ground, commended the formators for what they had done in the lives of the students, admonishing the seminarians to be mindful of their activities and ensure that they leveraged the peaceful ambience of the school to excel in their academic pursuit.
Administrating the Sacrament of Confirmation on 60 deserving candidates, Bishop Ezeokafor exhorted them to be cautious and vigilant as they grew in their academic work, charging them to shun acts capable of ruining their future and that of their loved ones, even as he quoted that an unexamined life was not worth living.
Appreciating the Local Ordinary, the Rector of the Seminary, Rev. Fr. Daniel Eduzor, paid a glowing tribute to Bishop Ezeokafor, for what he described as his constant presence, fatherly love and care, describing the Bishop’s visit as heartwarming and momentous.
# 21-year old apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, who allegedly struck his Master, late Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite to death with pestle, says his action were not triggered by influence of drugs or alcohol.
Chiemerie Anieke who killed his boss at No. 2 Enyiuko Street, Fegge, Onitsha,
blamed it on the devil.
The innocent looking, but fearless boy without any sign of remorse said he was prepared to face consequences for his actions.
Speaking at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where his case was transferred to, the suspect denied most of the allegations, including returning late that fateful day and drug addiction.
According to him, since he would not be forgiven, needles asking for forgiveness.
# The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, has inaugurated a new diocesan executive of the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Awka Diocese, led by Engr Barr Sir Victor Mejil as the President who will pilot the affairs of the Council for next four years.
The event, which took place at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, saw the inauguration of the new diocesan executive of the Catholic Men’s Organization, CMO, led by Sir Mejil as a President, the first of its kind in the annals of the Diocese.
During the event, Bishop Ezeokafor equally inaugurated the new diocesan executive of the Catholic Women’s Organization, CWO, along with the lady organizers, and that of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria, CYON, led by Lady Ngozi Dorathy Muo as Director, and Pharm Uchechukwu Franklin Okoye as President, respectively, that would also pilot the affairs of the Organizations for next four years.
Speaking in a homily during a Holy Mass heralding the joint inauguration ceremony, the Bishop charged the new diocesan executives to be servant leaders that looked unto Jesus Christ as a model.
# The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has expressed readiness to participate fully in the August 29th, 2026 local government election in the state, announced by the State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).
Engr Levi Obiaduo, the State secretary of the party, disclosed this while briefing Journalists at the party’s regional headquarters in Awka on Saturday, on the just concluded All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA’s Chairmanship/Councilorship primary in the state.
He described the primary as a violent -free electoral process, the state will ever witnessed since the inception of democracy in Nigeria in 1999.
He said APGA is not taking anything for granted as it had put everything humanly and politically possible in place to ensure a successful repeat of what transpired in the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election in the state.
# While it has become a common concern for many people who are not of the Catholic Faith to argue against the intercessory roles played by Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints in the life of Christians, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has explained that honouring the saints aligns with common sense, even if faith in such, is not welcomed.
The Bishop who was on a visit to St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Mgbakwu, said the Catholic Faithful had been erroneously misunderstood as worshiping the Blessed Virgin Mary who is the Mother of Jesus Christ, and of honouring the saints in a manner that seemed idolatrous.
Explaining that it was always natural to move from the known to the unknown, Bishop Ezeokafor explained that God Himself was the first to honour Mary by finding in her, the only human being who could bear His only begotten Son.
Similarly, the Bishop, while unveiling and blessing the image of St. Paul which stands at the entrance to the premises of the Church, explained that since St. Paul was the patron saint of the parish, the initiative to build his image was noble.
