President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday extended congratulations to winners of recent area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory and supplementary votes in Kano and Rivers states.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu praised the electoral process as a testament to democratic progress. “The president commends the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting a peaceful, credible and transparent election,” the statement read. “He also applauds the electorate for their orderly conduct and their role in deepening the roots of democracy in the country.”
Tinubu highlighted Wike’s contributions, noting: “The president commends the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his exemplary leadership and his commitment to ensuring the success of the elections, as evidenced by the impressive turnout of voters.”
The president urged the elected officials to prioritize infrastructure, social services and economic growth in their domains. “The president urges the newly elected officials to see their victory as a call to service and to dedicate themselves to the upliftment of their communities, focusing on good governance, inclusive development, and improved service delivery,” he said.
In the FCT polls held Saturday, the ruling All Progressives Congress swept all six chairmanship seats and 62 councillorship positions. Supplementary elections in Kano and Rivers filled vacancies stemming from disputes or deaths.
Neither the presidency nor Wike’s office provided additional comment on the accolades.
