# The government of Anambra State has recognized the traditional rulers of Azigbo in Nnewi South, Isulo in Orumba South, Amawbia in Awka South, Adazi-Ani in Anaocha, Ora-Eri in Aguata and Ndiowu in Orumba North local government area of the state.
They include Igwe Justice Samuel Nwachukwu Okoye of Azigbo, Igwe Clement Nchetaka Onwuka of Isulo and Igwe Uche Sunday Okonkwo of Amawbia.
Others are Igwe Benson Chinedu Madubuko of Adazi-Ani, Igwe Ejike Ugoagbala of Ora-eri and Igwe Sir. Ben Chibuzor Okekeifi of Ndiowu.
Presenting the certificates at the Light House, Awka, Governor Soludo stressed that the office of the traditional ruler is a creation of the town union constitutions in most communities, defining the responsibilities of the traditional rulers, tasking the monarchs to abide by that rule, to avoid the usual issues that arise between traditional rulers and presidents-General.
He asked them to be the light and father of all, and asked the communities to claim ownership and maintain the traditional institution in their communities.
# St Matthew’s Catholic Parish, Amawbia in Awka South LGA has built and donated a new modern two-bedroom apartment to an indigent 83-year old widow, Mrs Victoria Okoye, to ease the deplorable accommodation problem facing her and her family.
Blessing the house, the Parish Priest of the Church, Rev Fr Donatus Izuchukwu Oragwam, said the gesture was to practically demonstrate the teaching of Jesus Christ about love.
Fr Oragwam, who said the blessing of the house, reminded Christians on the need to remember Christ’s teaching about work of mercy, for the downtrodden in society.
He said that after seeing the condition of Mama Victoria, and how she had been surviving, they thought it wise to extend some charity to her.
# Igbo Women Assembly (IWA) and prominent Igbo stakeholders have called on government and relevant institutions in Southeast to enforce laws that promote the use of Igbo language in various sectors, as part of efforts to revitalize the language.
The group made the call in Awka, during an event to mark the United Nations Mother Tongue Day 2026.
The event themed “Asusu Igbo na Omenaala: Ngwaoru Maka Oganiihu Nke Akunuba Na Oha Obodo (Igbo Language and Culture: Tools For Socio-Economic Development”), was organized by IWA in collaboration with Council of Igbo States in America (CISA) and Ohaneze Ndigbo.
Speaking at the event, IWA National President, Lolo Nneka Chimezie warned that the Igbo language is gradually dying, with a huge percentage of the younger generation largely unable to speak it.
# Dunukofia Local Government Council has draw the attention of all public and private schools, and other public institutions within the LGA to compl6 with normal official activities every Monday.
According to a statement by the LGA,
“despite repeated sensitisation efforts through community announcements, churches, and other public channels, it has been observed that some schools and public facilities still engage in the unlawful Monday sit-at-home, in clear violation of government directives and the laws of Anambra State.
“Be informed that: Monday is a normal working and school day in Anambra State. Any form of closure, withdrawal of services, or non-attendance on Mondays is illegal and unacceptable. Students or pupils who absent selves from school on Mondays risk suspension from school or demotion from class.
“Heads of schools and managers of public facilities will be held personally accountable for non-compliance. Relevant authorities have been directed to monitor, enforce compliance, and apply appropriate sanctions where necessary. All institutions are therefore mandated to open fully and operate normally every Monday without exception”.
# A 52-year-old man, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe, has allegedly admitted to collecting ₦500,000 to recruit four gunmen for a violent attack in Urum, located in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The suspect was handed over to the Anambra State Police Command by operatives of the 302 Artillery Regiment, following his arrest at the Nigerian Army Cantonment in Onitsha.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was transferred to the Command on February 5 as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous bodily harm, and murder.
According to the Police, preliminary findings indicate that the suspect conspired with one Felix Godwin and other accomplices who are currently at large to organize the attack. The ambush reportedly targeted unsuspecting residents, leaving six people with severe gunshot wounds.
# During a lively snippet from Carter Efe’s recent livestream inside billionaire BLord’s luxurious mansion in Anambra State, BLord casually dropped a bombshell about the prime location.
BLord revealed that a single plot of land in this exclusive, high-end luxury estate and reserved strictly for the ultra-wealthy goes for as much as ₦250 million. His own grand mansion sits on six plots, meaning the land alone is worth over ₦1 billion.
BLord added that the area is so prestigious that he’s neighbors with the Deputy Governor of Anambra State.

# Umudioka Village, Awka has celebrated its cultural heritage, known as ‘Ogbugbu Uta’ Ngene Agu, described by adherents as a powerful deity in the community, as many people from far and wide gathered to pay homage and pray through the deity for blessings amidst funfair, masquerading, music, and dance performances.
Speaking during the event, the Priest of Ngene Agu Deity, Umudioka Village, Awka, Chief Nwokoye Nwosu, went down memory lane to explain that Umudioka were the last to sojourn to Awka among its thirty-three villages and were suffering from strange illnesses, but that Nwa Dioka brought with him medicines and healing through the Ngene Agu Deity, praying for the prosperity of all, as the event symbolizes the New Yam Festival of the great deity.
A traditionalist from Aguleri, Mr. Ikwunne Anakwesi, emphasized that the Igbo tradition is as old as time, noting that the church and tradition can be likened to being the same, especially with the demands and commands of both religions requiring adherents to stand by the truth and be upright at all times, further stating that tradition and culture will never go into extinction while paying homage to the Ngene Agu Deity.
The Chairlady of Ngene Agu female adherents, Dame Onyebuchi Okoli, and another female adherent, Nneka Emesiani, remarked that Ngene Agu is a powerful deity that solves their problems and brings healing through its water, adding that the event is a great show of culture and tradition, and urging all not to neglect their culture and roots.
A skilled ‘Egwu Uvio’ player, Mr. Onyenwe Ezeoba from Amanuke, explained that tradition and culture are supreme, pointing out that it is a negative and wrong notion to assume that tradition and culture are going into extinction, describing such belief as personal, and noting that as a skilled ‘Egwu Uvio’ traditional music player, tradition and culture will always stand.
# The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu says that the mayors of the twenty- one local government areas of Anambra State and Presidents-general of 177 communities have been mandated with providing adequate security for their areas and communities to enable pupils and students to comply fully to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to end Monday sit-at-home.
Ikediugwu stated this during a stakeholders engagement with Chairmen of Parents Teachers Associations of various schools in Anambra state.
Prof. Ikediugwu appealed to parents to remove fear from their hearts and allow their children to go to school on Mondays as security operatives are now positioned at strategic locations every Monday so as to provide adequate protection for all.
She allayed the fear of the PTA Chairmen that the free education policy have taken away their involvement in schools saying that the only thing government stopped was removal of PTA levies but not the association as schools cannot function without PTAs
PPSSC, Member in-charge of Awka zone,Dr Uche Okeke and one of the PTA Chairmen, Chief Francis Udeoba appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts in improving security in the state and assured the PPSSC Chairman, that through the grace of God by next Monday there will be tremendous increase in the number of students in schools.
