A high-ranking police official has retired after 34 years in the force, coinciding with a screening process for potential promotions among senior officers amid recent leadership changes.
Frank Mba, formerly the deputy inspector-general in charge of training and development, voluntarily stepped down following the retirement of ex-inspector-general Kayode Egbetokun and the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the new police chief.
Mba, who joined as a cadet in 1992 and excelled academically at the Nigeria Police Academy, held key positions including commissioner in Ogun State, assistant inspector-general for criminal investigations in Lagos, and force public relations officer.
He also served in a UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia and pursued advanced studies at institutions like Harvard and Oxford.
In a farewell statement, Mba expressed appreciation: “I am deeply grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the privilege of serving our great nation during his administration. The confidence reposed in the Nigeria Police leadership and the support given to the institution during this period have been invaluable.”
He added: “It has been a great honour for me to contribute my quota to the security and stability of our country. I want to sincerely thank the good people of Nigeria for the trust, encouragement and cooperation they extended to me throughout my 34 years in service.”
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission has summoned seven assistant inspectors-general for interviews on Friday to assess their suitability for elevation to deputy inspector-general roles.c315e4
The candidates include Margareth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zacharia Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, and Umar Shehu Nadada, who could join the force’s management team under the new leadership.
