Kwankwaso Quits NNPP Over Internal Wrangling, Loss of Vision

Former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), citing deep internal crises and a departure from the party’s founding ideals.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Kwankwaso said the decision followed “careful and prayerful consideration” of the current state of the party he helped establish.

“I have decided to resign from the New Nigeria Peoples Party with immediate effect,” he stated. “The party has been overtaken by internal wrangling and power struggles that no longer serve the interest of the Nigerian people.”

He added: “I cannot continue to be part of a platform that has lost its original vision of good governance and service to the masses.”

Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, urged his supporters to shift focus toward national development rather than partisan loyalty.

The resignation is expected to significantly reshape the opposition landscape in northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
