# The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, has described Easter as a time of joy and victory, urging Christians to live above sin in order to inherit the kingdom of God.

Delivering his Easter message at the Chapel of Grace, Bishop’s Court, Ekwulobia, Bishop Ezeofor said Christ’s victory came after battles against Satan, sin, and tribulations, and called on Christians to reflect the victory of the resurrection through righteous living and by helping the needy.

Bishop Ezeofor also stated that Easter has no connection with masquerading, stressing that such practices are not part of Christian celebrations. He urged Christians to ensure their activities during Easter align with the true meaning of the season.

 

# As Christians globally celebrate the paschal mystery of the resurrection of Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago, the Chief Medical Director, Evarest hospital and maternity Awka, Dr. Izuchukwu Okeke has called for their emulation of His sacrificial disposition for the salvation of mankind.

Dr. Okeke in a press statement in Awka ahead of the Easter celebration, urged Christians to make sacrifices for one another, promote love, peace and tolerance even in the midst of difficulties in Nigeria.

The CMD enjoined them to pray for God’s mercy and remain law abiding as the Nigerian masses face the challenges of horrendous and harrowing experiences of insecurity, socio- economic deprivation, injustices in high and low places, monumental corruption among other hydra headed vices.

 

# In the true spirit of love, sacrifice, and compassion that defines the Easter season, the Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Council, Chijioke Ozumba Esq., has extended a generous hand of support to party faithfuls, security personnel, and community groups across the LGA.

As part of activities marking the 2026 Easter celebration, the Mayor facilitated the distribution of bags of rice to all the 14 wards in Dunukofia LGA, ensuring that the joy of the season reaches the grassroots.

The gesture also covered executives of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at both ward and LGA levels, in recognition of their unwavering commitment and loyalty to the party.

In a commendable show of appreciation for those who work tirelessly to safeguard lives and property, personnel of Agunaechemba Security were not left out. Their dedication and sacrifice in maintaining peace and security across the local government were duly acknowledged through this act of kindness.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Mayor emphasized that Easter is a season that calls for reflection, love, and sharing with one another, especially the less privileged. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, noting that governance goes beyond infrastructure to include care, support, and human development.

 

# Dr. John Metchie, Anambra-born international business mogul has stated that the need for Anambra-East and West federal constituency to have better representation at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly in 2027 can not be overemphasized.

Metchie who spoke to newsmen in Umueri in Anambra-East Local Government Area, said he has carefully studied the situation and investigations revealed that the people are clamouring for a positive change in the next political dispensation.

He disclosed that his investigations further revealed that the constituency lacked federal presence and the people are no longer comfortable with the situation, adding that his ambition for the Federal House of Representatives stem from the fact that the people needed emancipation from what he described as poor representation.

 

# The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has called on Christians and all people of Goodwill to bear witness to Christ, especially in the Nigerian Politics.

The Bishop, who made this call while giving his Easter Message at his residence in Awka, described Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as the greatest in the Church.

Reflecting on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and his 2026 Lenten Pastoral Letter, ”Call to Christian Witness in Nigerian Politics”, the Bishop recalled the situation of the country, noting, ‘Our country is facing humongous challenges – religious, economic and socio-political. Nepotism, bribery and corruption, malpractices of all kinds, abuse of public offices, kidnapping, killing, and murdering of innocent Christians, are becoming daily marks of this nation. There is neither light, power nor security.’

In the face of these, the Bishop called on all, especially those in the corridors of power, to bear witness to Christ, noting that Christian politicians were called to reflect the biblical teaching of love, humility, honesty, and empathy in the everydayness of their lives, especially in the arena of politics.

 

# The Special Anti-Touting Squad, Anambra State (SASA) has carried out a significant enforcement operation against illicit drug activities in Onitsha, culminating in the public destruction of hard drugs valued at over N80 million.

The Managing Director of SASA, Monday Nwokoye, while speaking during the operation, reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and touting.

Nwokoye warned that individuals involved in the sale or consumption of illicit substances would face strict legal consequences.

“Drugs must stop in Anambra. Anyone caught will be dealt with decisively,” he stated.

The MD disclosed that the destroyed substances were seized from multiple locations including Nsugbe, Umuchu, Ojoto, Oba, Nkpor, Nkwelle Ezunaka, and Onitsha environs. He emphasized that the destruction was deliberate and final, ensuring the drugs would not re-enter circulation.

Describing drug dealers and distributors as criminals whose activities threaten public safety, Nwokoye stressed that drug abuse fuels theft, violence, and broader insecurity within communities.

He called on residents to actively support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities, noting that community cooperation remains essential in sustaining a safe environment.

 

# The Acting Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Barrister Juliet Amasiatu has promised to run the station as a core civil servant while in charge to achieve Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s objectives of proper time management and increased productivity.

Amasiatu while speaking during an interactive session with staff in Awka,
emphasized on discipline, respect for hierarchy and due process in all dealings.

She described ABS as a family, and called for all hands to be on deck to improve staff welfare.

Thanking the management team for the interactive session, some of the staff, including Comrade Chibuzo Obidike, Mrs. Kene Onwughalu and Onyeka Ugochukwu, used the opportunity to speak on ways to improve their productivity, welfare, among other issues.

 

# President-General of Umueri community in Anambra-East Local Government Area of Anambra state and grassroots political juggernaut, Chief John Metchie, has cautioned the people of Anambra-East and Anambra-West federal constituency to beware of those he described as Indomie politicians.

Metchie who spoke to newsmen in Otuocha, Anambra-East council area, said those he described as Indomie politicians were the crop of politicians who did virtually nothing with constituency project funds for the people rather accumulated the funds for the purchase of Indomie noodles, bags of rice, groundnut oil and others to deceive the people in an election year.

Metchie who is currently aspiring to represent Anambra-East and Anambra-West at the House of Representatives next year, maintained that there is absolutely nothing to show that Anambra-East and Anambra-West have a representative at the National Assembly.

He therefore emphasized the need for the people to resist the temptations of bags of rice, Indomie noodles and other items the politicians will come with so they don’t mortgage their collective future for another four years.
