Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the persecution of Christians in Nigeria and several other countries, while extending Easter greetings to Christian communities worldwide.
In a message posted on X on Sunday, Netanyahu wished Christians in Israel, the United States and beyond a blessed Easter and highlighted Israel’s role as the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is both protected and growing.
“Christians are persecuted across the Middle East, in Syria, Lebanon, Nigeria, Turkey, and beyond. But in our region, Israel alone protects our Christian community, which is growing and prospering,” he stated.
Netanyahu also referenced recent missile attacks on Jerusalem and reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of worship for all faiths.
“Even under fire, our commitment is unwavering: to defend life, to safeguard liberty, and to ensure that every believer can pray in peace,” he said.
The remarks echo similar concerns Netanyahu raised in his Christmas message last year, where he decried the killing and displacement of Christians in Nigeria.
No immediate reaction was issued by the Nigerian government.
