Iran has called on citizens to form human chains around the country’s power plants to protect them from potential US or Israeli strikes, as threats against its energy infrastructure intensify.
The appeal, broadcast on state television and reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency, frames the action as a national duty to safeguard essential services amid the ongoing conflict.
A senior Iranian official described the measure as necessary to deter aggression. “Our people will stand as a living shield to protect the nation’s vital infrastructure,” the official said.
The call comes after repeated warnings from US President Donald Trump that American forces would target Iranian energy facilities if the Strait of Hormuz remained closed to international shipping.
Iranian authorities have not specified the exact locations or timing for the human chains, but similar civilian mobilisation efforts have been used in the past to shield strategic sites.
