The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false and malicious reports alleging that soldiers are forced to purchase their uniforms and protective equipment from their personal funds.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the army described the claims as “unfounded” and part of a deliberate campaign to undermine the morale of troops.
Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the army provides all necessary kits and equipment to personnel.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to state categorically that it is not true that soldiers buy their uniforms and protective gear. The army procures and issues all required uniforms, boots, helmets, and other protective equipment to its personnel,” he said.
He added that any isolated cases of shortages are promptly addressed through the army’s supply chain system.
Nwachukwu warned that such false narratives were intended to “demoralise our gallant troops who are daily making sacrifices to keep Nigeria safe.”
The army urged the public to disregard the reports and rely only on official channels for accurate information about its operations and welfare of personnel.
