# Anambra civil servants who were caught absent from their duty offices when Governor Chukwuma Soludo paid unscheduled visit to the State Secretariat have appeared before a disciplinary committee to determine their fate in the service.
The disciplinary panel, which convened at the Committee Hall of the Office of the Head of Service, Jerome Udorji Secretariat Complex, Awka, was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Nkiru Jessie Nwankwo, alongside other Permanent Secretaries and senior civil servants.
Addressing the affected workers, the Chairman, Mrs. Nwankwo, stated that lateness particularly absenteeism violates Civil Service Rules and constitutes a breach of contract punishable under the law.
She urged the workers to take their duties seriously, noting that the current administration is committed to transforming the Civil Service. She further advised them to emulate the Head of Service, Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, whom she described as a model civil servant.
# There was uneasy calm in Awka, Anambra State following public parade of Chief Austin Ndigwe, central figure in a long-standing traditional rulership dispute as “Ezeuzu III” of Awka Ancient Kingdom in defiance of state government’s directive in a White Paper declaring Obi Gibson Nwosu the authentic monarch.
Ndigwe, reportedly accompanied by a convoy, including police officers on motorcycles and some titled men of Awka, moved through several parts of the town in a procession that drew attention and controversy.
He was said to have later proceeded to a memorial service for the parents of Lt. Gen. Chukwukadibia Obiakor, where supporters continued to hail him as “Ezeuzu III,” further intensifying the dispute over the Awka traditional stool.
In a video shared on his Facebook page, Ndigwe was seen inside a convoy vehicle while chants of royal recognition echoed from supporters along the route.
# Anambra State Civil Service workers have been urged to remain dedicated, disciplined and punctual in the discharge of their duties following a routine inspection carried out across ministries at the state secretariat.
The exercise was conducted by the Office of the Head of Service as part of efforts to strengthen commitment, improve productivity and ensure that civil servants report to work on time putting into consideration Fridays when most people attend social functions outside their office environment.
During the early morning inspection, officials visited various ministries within the state secretariat to monitor attendance and assess the level of seriousness among workers.
The inspection, according to officials, is aimed at encouraging discipline in the civil service and rewarding workers who are committed to their responsibilities.
The Head of Service, Ngozi Iwouno, Esq, emphasized that punctuality and dedication remain essential to effective service delivery, adding that the routine checks would continue across ministries to ensure that government workers uphold high standards in the discharge of their duties.
# Tansian University, a private tertiary institution based in Anambra has terminated the appointment of Prof. Ellis Idemobi as its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
The university in a letter signed by Rev. Daniel Igwilo, the Registrar and Secretary to Council said the termination of Idemobi’s appointment was effective April 8, 2026.
The University Board accused Idemobi of actively involved in the manipulation of University documents and administrative processes, with the intent and effect of undermining the authority of the proprietors and board .
It said the sacked Pro-Chancellor aimed to destabilise the governance structure of the University to alter control and ownership arrangements to his advantage well as acts amounting to financial misappropriation.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at Immigration Junction, Agu Awka, along the Awka-Enugu Expressway, claiming the life of one male adult.
According to SRC. Margaret Onabe, FRSC spokesperson, Anambra State Command,
the crash, which occurred on Wednesday, involved two vehicles: a Mark LPG tanker and a TVS commercial tricycle (Keke) with registration number UMZ002QJ.
” Two male adults were involved one killed and the tanker driver was rescued unhurt.
“According to eyewitness reports, the Keke driver was attempting to get passage from security personnel diverting traffic due to ongoing road reconstruction when the fully loaded tanker, which reportedly suffered brake failure, ran over him.
“FRSC rescue operatives arrived at the scene at 11:35 hours and commenced action. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene. No injuries were recorded.
“The remains of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Morgue, Awka’. Onabe stated
Reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander, FRSC Anambra State Command, Bridget Asekhauno, expressed deep concern over the loss of life and cautioned drivers, especially those operating articulated vehicles, to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition.
“This crash is avoidable. We strongly recommend that all drivers adhere to prescribed speed limits and slow down considerably when approaching junctions, diversions, and construction zones. Lives are irreplaceable,” she stated.

# Hon. Godwin Onyeaka, has been conferred with the traditional title of Onu Eze Ivite Anam by the Igwe of Ivite Anam, His Royal Majesty, Igwe S.U. Ozoemene, during the Ovala Ivite Anam festival.
The title was bestowed in recognition of Onyeaka’s leadership and contributions to the development and unity of the Ivite Anam community.

# Former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi has explained that his decision to leave the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was driven by a need to preserve stability in the state, rather than what Many people think of as “personal interest.”
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Obi revealed that tensions between him and his successor influenced his move. According to him, rather than allow the disagreement to escalate into a toxic situation capable of disrupting governance, he chose to step aside from the party.
Obi emphasized that his exit was not out of hostility but a deliberate decision to ensure that governance in Anambra State remained smooth and free from unnecessary political conflict.
