Galatasaray and NFF have paid tribute to former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo, who died at the age of 40 after collapsing on a football pitch in Kaduna.
The club issued a condolence message on Friday following Eneramo’s sudden death earlier that day during a local match where he was keeping fit and running an academy.
“We are saddened to hear the passing of Michael Eneramo, who played for multiple clubs in the Turkish Süper Lig. Everyone at Galatasaray SK extends their condolences to his family, friends and the Federation of Nigeria,” the statement read.
Eneramo, a former Super Eagles forward, enjoyed a 14-year professional career that included stints with several Turkish clubs. He began his European journey after leaving Nigeria’s Lobi Stars and later joined Tunisian side Espérance de Tunis, where he became a club legend.
Espérance also issued a heartfelt farewell, describing Eneramo as “one of its most loyal sons” and “a symbol of strength, determination, and resolve.”
“With hearts gripped by pain, Espérance Sportive de Tunis mourns its former Nigerian player, Michael Ennamo, who has passed away after an exceptional career that will remain etched in the memory of the club and its fans for generations to come,” the Tunisian club stated.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had earlier acknowledged Eneramo’s contributions to the Super Eagles, particularly his goal against Tunisia in a 2010 World Cup qualifier.
Eneramo slumped in the second half of the match in Kaduna and was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Galatasaray’s tribute highlights Eneramo’s impact during his time in Turkish football, where he played for various Süper Lig sides before retiring in 2018 with Turk Ocagi Limasol.
