The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the deadline for the sale and submission of nomination forms for its 2026 primary elections following disappointingly low sales across most categories.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) took the decision after assessing the poor response from prospective aspirants, especially at the state and federal levels.
APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, confirmed the extension in a statement issued late on Sunday.
“The NWC, after a comprehensive review of the forms sales process, observed that many qualified and interested party members are yet to obtain their nomination forms,” Bashiru said.
He explained that the extension was necessary to allow more members adequate time to participate in the process.
The original deadline for the sale and submission of forms had been set to close on Sunday, May 3, but the new date is now May 10, 2026.
The APC had fixed the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at a combined ₦100 million, with lower fees for other positions.
Despite the high-profile nature of the exercise, reports indicate sluggish purchase of forms, raising concerns within the ruling party about enthusiasm ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes as the APC grapples with internal dynamics and competition from opposition parties that have also begun releasing their primary timetables and fee structures.
Party leaders expressed hope that the extended window would boost participation and ensure a more inclusive primary process.
The NWC urged all interested aspirants to take advantage of the additional period to purchase and submit their forms before the new deadline.
