Court Orders Detention of Activist ‘Justice Crack’ Over Military-Linked Cybercrime Charges

Social media Activist popularly known as Justice Crack has been remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) after being arraigned on cybercrime charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Chidiebere Mark, whose real name is Chidiebere Mark, was docked on Monday, May 4, 2026, on a three-count charge bordering on alleged dissemination of false information capable of causing public disorder.

The charges relate to a viral video he posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, in which he alleged poor welfare and inadequate feeding of soldiers in the Nigerian Army. The DSS described the claims as false and damaging to the military’s reputation.

Justice Crack pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

Prosecution counsel E. Orubo prayed the court for a trial date and for the accused to be remanded in DSS custody pending the hearing of the matter.

Defence counsel Marshall Abubakar opposed the remand and made an oral application for bail, but the request was rejected by the presiding judge, Joyce Abdulmalik.

Justice Abdulmalik directed the defence to file a formal bail application and ordered that the blogger be kept in DSS custody until May 25, 2026, when his trial is scheduled to begin.

The case highlights ongoing concerns over the use of cybercrime laws to prosecute individuals for content posted on social media, particularly when it touches on sensitive national security or military issues.
