Former Big Brother Naija housemate Queen Mercy Atang has sparked global interest after Guinness World Records commented on her bread-inspired outfit worn at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The reality star-turned-entrepreneur appeared on the red carpet in a striking costume resembling loaves of bread, complete with a matching prop, as a creative nod to her bakery business.
In a video she shared on Instagram, Guinness World Records left a comment reading: “Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm.”
Queen promptly responded: “Hello @guinnessworldrecords, I see you in the comment section.”
The current Guinness World Record for the largest wearable cake dress stands at 131.15kg, set by Natasha Coline Kim Fah Lee Fokas in Switzerland in January 2023.
Queen explained the concept behind her look, writing: “AMVCA 2026 ready. I come as an entrepreneur who runs a bread EMPIRE.”
The unconventional attire has dominated social media conversations since the event, drawing both praise and criticism. While some described it as excessive, branding experts hailed it as a clever marketing strategy that successfully spotlighted her business.
In a subsequent open letter to MultiChoice Group and Africa Magic, Queen proposed the creation of a dedicated platform for entrepreneurs at future AMVCAs.
“Just a thought, since we already have the AMVCA Cultural Day and other special events before the main award night, would it be possible to create a special night dedicated to entrepreneurs in Nigeria to showcase their brands, creativity, and impact?” she wrote. “Imagine AMVCA Nigerian Entrepreneurs Night. Massive, classy, and inspiring.”
The outfit has also inspired AI-generated designs and attracted attention from international fashion influencers.
