Celebrity nightlife promoter Cubana Chief Priest has lost his bid to secure a House of Representatives ticket after businessman Chief Cannice Moore Nwachukwu emerged victorious in the contest.
Cubana Chiefpriest who is the DG of City Boy Movement in Imo State lost to Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu, who is the experienced representative currently serving the constituency in the 10th National Assembly.
The political scene in the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East federal constituency gained national attention when Okechukwu announced his candidacy. With strong social media support, financial resources, and powerful connections within the ruling party, including public backing from key figures like Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, his entry was seen as a movement driven by young people.
As the Imo State Director for the pro-Tinubu City Boy Movement, Okechukwu had significant sway over the youth wing of the ruling party. However, when local delegates voted, the established systems of the APC in Imo State firmly backed Nwachukwu.
During the 2023 general elections, Okechukwu actively supported Peter Obi and the Labour Party. His sudden switch to the APC and alignment with its leadership angered many young voters in Southeast Nigeria who typically lean toward opposition parties.
Just after the results showed he lost in the primaries, social media exploded with mockery and ridicule. Long-time rivals, including those who have followed his public fights, took this chance to rejoice in his defeat, presenting it as a reminder that politics is local.
