Abia Gov Otti Boasts 414 Roads Built, 60% Debt Reduction in 3 Years

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced that his administration constructed 414 roads spanning 864.12 kilometres in three years while slashing the state’s debt by about 60 percent.

Otti disclosed the achievements during his monthly media chat, “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” held in Umuahia on Friday night.

“In the last three years, we have constructed 414 roads with street lights and drainage systems,” he said, adding that many more roads will be commissioned from next week.

He revealed that another 82 roads, measuring about 212 kilometres, are currently under construction at various stages.

On the fiscal front, Otti stated: “We have been able to reduce our debt profile significantly by about 60%. From about 191 billion Naira in 2023 to less than 50 billion Naira at the end of 2025.”

The governor highlighted improved rankings in fiscal sustainability, transparency and accountability. “The Budget state of the states report moved Abia from No. 17 two years ago in 2023 to No. 4 last year in 2025,” he noted.

Otti also listed progress in other sectors including land administration, education, health, transportation with electric buses, and environmental sanitation. He described the overall focus of his administration as “restoring the dignity of our people.”

The Labour Party governor assumed office in May 2023.
