The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) members in Anambra State, on Saturday May 23rd, 2026, trooped out in their numbers to elect candidates who will represent them at the State and National Assemblies.
Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that in Oyi and Anambra East Local Government Areas, party faithfuls and stakeholders participated the voting exercise.
Accreditation began by nine o’clock at Enuobodo Central School and Unity Primary School, Umueri, as well as Ugwunadegbe Primary School, Aguleri.
At Igueso, Awkuzu Ward 4, Progress Primary School Awkuzu, and wards one to five in Nteje, accreditation did not start early.
Speaking to newsmen at Maternity Ward One, Nsugbe, where accreditation commenced by 9:00 a.m, Anambra Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, said that the election was peaceful and organised, expressing happiness with the turnout of members.
Security personnel were present at Nsugbe Ward One, Enuobodo Central School, Umueri, Unity Primary School, Umueri, and Ugwunadegbe Primary School, Aguleri, but were not seen at Awkuzu and Nteje wards.
Speaking at Chibuzo Primary School, Abba, the Electoral Officer, Professor Theophilus Alumona, said a person must possess a Permanent Voter Card, PVC, and be a registered APGA member before he or she is allowed to vote.
At Community High School, Nawgu, in Dunukofia Local Government Area,
accreditation was still ongoing as of 3:00 p.m.
Some voters gathered at the voting points were observed expressing concerns over the accreditation process, which they said was taking too much time.
In Okpoko Wards 1, 4, and 5, a large number of members could not be accredited, as many arrived at their polling wards with either only their National Identity Cards, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or only their APGA membership cards.
INEC officials and party agents insisted that members must present both their Permanent Voter Cards and APGA membership cards before they could be allowed to vote.
At Unity Secondary School, Okpoko Ward 1, the exercise was temporarily halted as INEC officials left the venue following protests by members who argued that either the PVC or party membership card could be used for accreditation.
Meanwhile, at Community Primary School III, Ward 5, INEC officials were able to resolve the issue and commenced accreditation at 11:52 a.m., while as of 3:30 p.m., accreditation was still ongoing.
