# The lawmaker representing Ihiala Federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Paschal Agbodike have been elected as candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the just concluded party primary held statewide, on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026.

Agbodike scored 4,791 votes to defeat his only rival, Mr Madakolam Akachukwu who scored 42 votes.

For Ihiala One Constituency, the Chief Whip of Anambra State House of Assembly, Barrister Jude Chimezie Ngobili score 1, 531 votes to defeat two other contesters, Mr Uzoma Charles, who had 5 votes and Edwin Ejike, who got 4 votes respectively.

For the Ihiala Two Constituency, Hon Eze-Golden Chukwuemeka Iloh score 3,359 votes to defeat his only challenger, Mr. Onyekachi Divine who scored 152 votes.

The results were announced at the Ihiala Local Government Area Conference Hall Ihiala by the returning officers of the three successful candidates, Mr. Okechukwu Emereonye (announced for Federal Constituency), Mr Iloanya Okechukwu ( announced for Ihiala Constituency 1) and Chief Godwin Udu (announced for Ihiala Constituency 2) respectively.

Rt. Hon. Agbodike, in his acceptance speech on behalf of Ngobili and Iloh, commended Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, the APGA National Working Committee, the people of Ihiala, the returning officers, INEC officials, security personnel and the media for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful, fair, just, credible and transparent process across the 20 political wards that constitute the local government area.

# The Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr. Temitope Ilorin has said the launch of Long-Acting Injectable LENACAPAVIR (LEN PrEP) programme, marks an important step in strengthening HIV prevention services in Nigeria and Anambra in particular.

She stated this at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) Amaku-Awka during the launch of LENACAPAVIR (LEN PrEP) programme in Anambra state.

Represented by the Programme Officer, Gloria Asuquo, the NACA DG said the programme reflects Nigeria’s shared commitment to expanding access to effective prevention options and improving health outcomes for individuals and communities at risk.

Dr Ilorin commended the Government of Prof Chukwuma Soludo for a successful rollout of this programme and looked forward to continued partnership in achieving an AIDS-free Nigeria.

# Motorcycle riders plying the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka school gate and environs, including some parts of Amansea and Ebenebe have complained and protested against the constant harassment by security operatives.

The riders also complained about a vigilante group, positioned around the Ifite school gate, including the daily taxation by some persons, claiming to be working for the state government without proper identification of their office, which had earlier led to the shooting of a motorcycle rider by the vigilante security.

During a peace meeting between the Motorcycle Riders, popularly called okada, with the President General of Non-Indigenes In Anambra State, Prince Chigozie Nweke, they lamented on how the constant harassment, payment of taxes to unidentified persons, claiming to be working for the state government but yet facing all manners of intimidation has affected them terribly.

Speaking during the peace meeting to seek and bring a lasting peace to the challenge, Dr. Daniel Balami, a member of the Elders Council of Non-Indigenes, lamented how the problems have affected motorcycle riders, which a lasting solution must be sought to avoid further escalation of the situation to restore peace and harmony amongst all, as the peace meeting with the President General of Non-Indigenes is a way in the right direction.

# Fidelity Bank has pledged to partner with the Anambra State Ministry of Information and Value Reformation on the state government’s planned moral and ethical rebirth campaign.

The assurance came when a delegation from the bank’s Ziks Avenue, Awka branch visited the newly reappointed Commissioner, Dr. Law Mefor, to congratulate him on his return to office.

Dr. Mefor while addressing the team, said Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second term, branded ‘Solution 2.0,’ began on March 17, 2026, with a mandate to restructure the state.

The Commissioner noted that the restructuring led to the renaming of the ministry to reflect a renewed focus on value reformation alongside information management.

The Regional Bank Head Ugochukwu Anwusi, in his speech, said that Fidelity Bank would back the moral and ethical reformation programme, particularly efforts targeting students in secondary schools.

Anwusi, described Mefor as a key player in the Soludo administration and said the bank was identifying with him because of his role in driving the government’s agenda.

# The current President General of Ideani community in Idemili North LGA, Engr. Paul Chidubem Okoye has won the ticket of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to contest for the House of Assembly in the 2027 general election.

In the primary election of the APGA held through option A4, Okoye scored 4,974 votes in what has been described as a landslide victory. He floored six of his challengers.

Okoye defeated two former lawmakers, Hon Ifeanyi Arthur Chiekwu and Hon Tony Muonagor and four other contestants.

Okoye’s challengers Arthur Ifeanyi Chiekwu scored 1,336, Emmanuel Idemili scored 2,550, Tony Muonagor scored 2,168, Idemobi Onyekachukwu scored 1120, Chibuezem Onochie scored 1930, while Stanley Uzoegwu scored 137.

The returning officer for the election, Chief Jeremiah Chukwuneke declared Okoye the winner of the election.

# The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) members in Ogbaru Two Constituency of Ogbaru Local Government Area, have elected their representative and Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze as the House of Assembly Candidate in the May 23, 2026 APGA Primary Election.

The peaceful APGA Primary Election which took place in all the ten electoral wards in Ogbaru Two Constituency, recorded an impressive turnout of APGA faithful and was witnessed by INEC officials.

Announcing the result of the election, the Returning Officer, Barrister Barnabas Kenere, revealed that the Speaker, Rt. Hon.VUdeze scored a total of Seven Thousand One Hundred and Eighty Seven votes (7,187) to beat his opponent, Mr. Enebeli Afamefuna who scored One Hundred and Sixty Eight votes (168).

Rt. Hon. Udeze, having scored the highest number of votes cast, was returned elected as the APGA House of Assembly Candidate for Ogbaru Two Constituency.

Responding, the Speaker expressed gratitude to APGA members in Ogbaru Two Constituency for the confidence reposed in him by electing him as the House of Assembly Candidate.

Udeze assured them that he would not take their mandate for granted, but will continue to work towards the peace, unity and development of Ogbaru, as well as the improvement of the living standard of his constituents and beyond.

# The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has held an interactive session with Year One Course Representatives of the institution.

The engagement provided students with an opportunity to voice concerns affecting their academic activities and welfare.

The meeting, which brought together students from different faculties and departments, served as a platform for discussions on issues ranging from inadequate classroom facilities and lecture scheduling to security concerns and challenges with course registration.

Speaking during the session, students highlighted several challenges affecting their academic activities and overall welfare within the University.

Other students also raised concerns bordering on insecurity within some parts of the campus, clashes in lecture timetables, poor electricity supply in classrooms, and difficulties encountered during course registration.

Students further drew the attention of the University management to overgrown bushes around the Architecture Studio, which they said has led to the presence of reptiles within the area.

Responding to the students, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie commended them for speaking up and engaging constructively with the University management. He assured the students that their complaints would be given proper attention, emphasising that the University administration remains committed to improving students’ welfare and creating a conducive environment for learning.
