Anambra sets #50m for 2027 presidential candidates, presents outdoor advert guidelines

The Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) has announced that Presidential candidates of various political parties seeking to campaign through outdoor advertisements and related promotional activities in Anambra State are to pay a permit fee of ₦50 million.

According to ANSAA, Senatorial candidates would pay ₦20 million, candidates, House of Representatives candidates ₦5 million and candidates for the Anambra State House of Assembly ₦1.5 million.

Ahead of the local government election in the State holding on 29th August 2026, ANSAA said chairmanship candidates shall pay ₦2.5 million, while councillorship candidates will pay ₦100,000 respectively for outdoor campaigns.

The Assistant General Manager of ANSAA, Engr. Chika Ngobili made the announcement during a press briefing in Awka on Friday, saying the briefing followed the anticipated lifting of ban on political campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He noted that all the candidates seeking elective positions in the 2027 elections and 2026 LG election must obtain permits from the agency and pay the approved fees before deploying any form of outdoor promotional or campaign materials across the state

Engr Ngobili warned political parties and candidates to comply strictly with its guidelines for out-of-home promotions and visual campaign activities or face stiff sanctions.

He explained that the permit system is aimed at ensuring orderliness, preventing visual pollution, protecting public infrastructure, maintaining professional standards, guaranteeing fairness and equal access to advertising opportunities, as well as ensuring proper coordination of campaign-related outdoor activities across the state.

ANSAA further advised political parties and candidates to engage only practitioners registered with the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), stressing that all campaign materials intended for outdoor display by political parties, candidates, support groups, advertising agencies and practitioners must be vetted by ARCON before deployment.

The agency however cautioned against the indiscriminate pasting of posters and campaign materials on public buildings, road signs, bridges, flyovers, drainage channels, public monuments, utility installations, schools, hospitals and other prohibited locations across the state.

On why candidates are charged for this permit instead of political parties that sponsor them as it were in 2025 Governorship Election, Engr Ngobili said it is because flag bearers vy for different positions not the party in this political season. “We are charging that particular candidate who said vote for me, not the party.”

“As a matter of fact, we are a government agency, not a political party. Individuals secure the tickets to run on the parties’ platforms; hence they bought the Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms, and went through the screening processes. That’s why we deal on individual basis: per time, per party,” Special Project Manager, Dr Obinna Efobi said.

The AGM was flanked by top officials of the Agency including the Special Project Manager, Dr Obinna Efobi; Out-of-Homes Manager, Mr. Innocent Adike; Out-of-Homes Support and Road Furniture Manager, Mr Eruchalu Chijioke; Mobile Asset Manager, Mr Obi Chike; Strategy and Planning Manager, Mr Samuel Ilogu; and ANSAA Media Manager/PRO, MacDonald Ifeme.###
