# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has emphasized that women and youths hold the essential key to driving meaningful development in Anambra State and Nigeria at large.
Addressing the Women Coordinators of the City Boys movement during their interaction at the Light House in Awka, the Governor pointed out that his administration is intentionally focused on fostering greater participation for these groups in government.
Governor Soludo expressed excitement regarding the activities of the women’s wing thus far, noting that he is impressed by their active participation.
He urged the women to curate their future according to their vision, framing his efforts as a social crusade and a push for a legal framework aimed at re-engineering society toward a more prosperous future.
The Governor highlighted that the future of generations to come is currently at stake, stressing that the movement must operate with a clear understanding of their role in coordinating for Anambra State, offered a sobering reflection, expressing his desire that Ndi Igbo avoid wasting their votes in future electoral cycles.
# As the rainy season sets in across various parts of Nigeria, agricultural experts and farmers have emphasized the need for the effective utilization of farm inputs to enhance food production and increase harvests.
Agricultural expert, Mrs. Ifeoma Onyema, stated that inputs such as improved seedlings, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and farming tools are critical to promoting healthy crop growth during the rainy season.
During an engagement with farmers in Nawfia community, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, the farmers described farm inputs as essential resources that help minimize losses and improve agricultural productivity.
Mrs. Helen Nwoye, a cassava farmer, noted that the use of improved seedlings and fertilizers had significantly benefited her farm. “With good seeds and fertilizers during the rainy season, crops grow healthier and faster. This also leads to higher yields and increased income,” she said.
# Speakers at a one-day Worldwide Organisation for Women Africa, Inc. (WOW Africa) Conversation advocated the best approaches to the well-being of women and ways to build core values and moral rectitude within their families.
The WOW Africa Conversation, which attracted women in large numbers, as well as students and young girls, aimed to enlighten participants on how best to live and actualise their goals and aspirations in life, especially in the areas of health promotion and family orientation.
WOW Africa was founded by Chief Mrs Carol Ugochukwu, whose efforts have been focused on advancing the cause of women and the girl-child, championing community development, promoting change-makers, and building an equitable future.
Addressing the gathering, the Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Ngozi Iwuno, said that for an efficient and healthy society, women should prioritise their health because if a woman is not mentally and physically fit, there will be shortcomings in all aspects of life, as women play a vital role in raising children and guiding them towards positive values that contribute to societal growth.
Barrister Iwuno further called for the elimination of cultural norms that do not enhance the well-being of women, while stressing the importance of education and other forms of learning that can position them for greater achievements in life.
# Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion, Province of the Niger, Anambra has honoured 58 candidates from its mission schools who scored 270 and above in 2026 JAMB results released recently.
According to the On The Niger Bishop, Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, the candidates are given an Educational Merit awards for scoring 270 and above in the just held JAMB examination.
The 2026 edition of the event was the third in the series since initiated.
The candidates who were drawn from various secondary schools owned by the diocese thronged the Bishop’s Court, GRA, Onitsha with their parents and guardians for the receipt of the awards.
The lowest score made by the candidates was 270 while the highest was 350.
The benefactor of the award presentation, the Diocesan, the Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, who, filled with joy while giving the merit award certificates to the candidates, commended them and urged them not to relent or take their success for granted.
# Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)
frontline contender for Anambra South Senatorial seat and chairman of Seahorse Lubricants, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo has declared that he will be announced winner at the general election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Speaking in an interview in Awka,
Onunkwo maintained that he has found solace in NDC and that he is prepared for the election.
He noted that Anambra-South deserves better representation than what they are getting at the moment at the Senate.
# The APGA flag bearer for Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obby Nwankwo, has called on eligible residents across the constituency to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general election.
Nwankwo made the call during his thank you visit, where he interacted with party faithful, community members and supporters. He stressed that voter registration remains the first step towards active participation in the democratic process, urging youths, women, artisans, traders and first time voters not to miss the opportunity.
According to him, the future of Awka North and South can only be shaped by people who are ready to participate fully in the electoral process. He noted that support and political interest alone would not count during elections without a valid voter registration.
Hon. Obby Nwankwo further encouraged those who recently turned 18 years to take advantage of the exercise and secure their voting rights ahead of the 2027 polls.
# Ezinifite Community in Aguata Local Government Area will host the first session of the Eighth Synod of the Diocese of Aguata Anglican Communion in 2027.
The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt Rev Samuel Ezeofor, disclosed this at St. Andrew’s Parish, Ezira, in Orumba South Local Government Area during a thanksgiving service to mark the end of the Third Session of the Seventh Synod.
The thanksgiving service, attended by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, featured the cutting of the synod cake and a special fundraising for developmental projects in the Diocese, including the ongoing construction of a School of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, as well as an ultramodern diagnostic centre at Isulo, where Bishop Ezeofor charged the people to seek ways of encouraging the expansion of God’s Kingdom on earth.
Bishop Ezeofor, who is the President of the Synod, said that what motivated him to choose the theme of the Synod, “God’s Great Task for the Church: The Great Commitment – Raising a Godly Generation,” was the high rate of negative behaviour among children, who are the future leaders, and charged the clergy and laity to synergize towards raising God-fearing children.
# The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has cautioned Ndi Igbo to avoid wasting their votes in the 2027 elections for President, Senate, Federal House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats, emphasising that the Igbos’ votes are crucial to ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, as their support counts in their own interests.
He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the Women’s Wing of the City Boy Movement, led by his daughter Adaora Ifeatu Soludo, at the Anambra State Light House auditorium in Awka on June 1, 2026.
The governor explained that the movement aims to support Mr. President’s re-election. “We must approach politics rationally, not emotionally. It’s important to engage strategically by bargaining with our votes to avoid marginalization because, in democracy, your vote is your bargaining power.”
He also urged that efforts should be made across wards and local government areas to register enough voters who would support the current administration’s second term in 2027, for the benefit of Ndi Igbo. Although Anambra is an APGA stronghold, he acknowledged that “Progressives are working together for the good of the Igbo people.”
In her speech, Adora Soludo, the State Convener of the Anambra Chapter of the City Boy Movement, thanked the governor for the opportunity to present their agenda. She appreciated the ongoing transformational projects, especially the ‘1 Youth, 2 Skills’ empowerment programme, which has positively impacted youths in the state.
She explained that the movement is committed to advancing President Bola Tinubu’s agenda. “Our movement aims to mobilise, empower, and involve women in community participation and development. We’ve established grassroots structures, inaugurated women promoters in all 21 LGAs, and are expanding to the wards across the state.”
