Voting for Obi in 2027 Will Hand Tinubu Victory — Kenneth Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has warned that supporting Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 presidential election would indirectly ensure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election by splitting the opposition vote.

Okonkwo made the remarks during an interview with Symfoni TV on Wednesday, stressing the need for opposition forces to unite on a single platform.

“The reason I said it is that either you’re working for Tinubu directly, in other words, you’re in APC, or you’re working for Tinubu indirectly because when you divide the votes of the coalition and the opposition, you’re still making Tinubu better placed to win,” he said.

The ADC leader criticised Obi’s decision to exit the ADC coalition, claiming the former Anambra governor was unwilling to subject himself to a competitive primary.

“Nobody forced Peter Obi to enter ADC. He entered on his own, and one week to the end of the closure of the time, he left,” Okonkwo added.

He argued that political analysts have long warned that a fragmented opposition would only strengthen the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the polls.

Okonkwo remains in the ADC, which has Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate following the party’s primaries.
