2027 Election: Okonkwo Outlines Plans for Idemili North/South Federal Constituency

…Says he has the solution to Idemili’s erosion menace

The Action Alliance (AA) candidate for the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ikechukwu Okonkwo, has unveiled his agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to tackle key challenges confronting the constituency, including erosion, electricity supply, security, and youth empowerment.

Speaking during the June Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, held on Thursday at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, NUJ Secretariat Complex, Awka, Okonkwo said he possesses the ideas and capacity required to address the persistent erosion problems affecting communities in Idemili North and South.

According to him, among all the candidates seeking to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives, he is uniquely positioned to provide lasting solutions to the erosion menace that has plagued the area for many years.

The AA candidate also promised to pursue legislation that would facilitate reliable and affordable electricity across communities in the constituency. He noted that improved power supply would stimulate industrialisation, particularly small-scale industries, thereby creating employment opportunities for residents.

Okonkwo further assured constituents that he would sponsor bills aimed at strengthening security architecture within the constituency to safeguard lives and property. He also pledged to attract federal educational scholarship programmes for indigent students and create employment opportunities for qualified youths in federal agencies.

Highlighting his commitment to community development, Okonkwo disclosed that he was among the founders of the Village Boys Movement. He expressed his readiness to maintain a strong working relationship with journalists and the leadership of the NUJ in Anambra State, with a view to promoting the welfare of media practitioners.

The House of Representatives hopeful also promised to champion legislation that would provide tax waivers for low-income traders, describing the measure as a strategic intervention to support small businesses and encourage economic growth.

“I am not going to the House of Representatives to relax; I am going there to work and ensure that the problems facing my constituency are addressed.

Given that the constituency hosts about five major markets in Anambra State, one of my priorities will be to pursue legislation that will enable low-income traders to enjoy tax waivers so their businesses can thrive,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD, commended Okonkwo for his courage and commitment to participating in the electoral process.

Odogwu wished the AA candidate success in his political aspiration and expressed confidence that a strong partnership with the media would contribute positively to his political journey.
