# The Nigerian Police Chaplaincy, Department of Finance and Administration, Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, Anambra State, has commenced the construction of a chapel aimed at promoting the spiritual, emotional and moral well-being of police officers and their families in Anambra and Enugu states.
The foundation stone laying ceremony, held at the Zone 13 Headquarters in Ukpo, was presided over by the Chairman of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Anambra State, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chigozie Nwokolo, alongside the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Anambra State, Bishop Moses Ezenedebego, and other church leaders.
Chairman of the Zonal Chaplaincy Stakeholders Forum, Dr. Izuchukwu Nwabueze, said the proposed facility would serve as a centre for worship, counselling and spiritual growth, while providing welfare and emotional support for officers and their families.
Special Guest of Honour, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, described the project as timely and in line with the state’s efforts at moral and spiritual renewal.
Dr. Ibezim assured the organisers of the state government’s continued support for initiatives that promote spiritual growth, moral values and peaceful coexistence.
# Anambra Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Patrick-Agha Mba has called on football lovers in Anambra to come out en masse and enjoy the best of football in the game between Barau and Ikorodu Utd on Thursday .
Mba made the call on Wednesday while expressing gratitude to the Nigeria Football Federation for approving the Awka Township Stadium for the quarter final encounter of the President’s Federation Cup on June 11.
He urged sports lovers across to come to the stadium and cheered their preferred teams to victory.
Mba thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing the conducive environment for sports and youth development to thrive in the state while promising that more of such high powered games would be brought to the state for the delight of the people.
# The Anambra State Government has approved a strategic partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) to host the society’s 99th Annual National Conference, scheduled to commence on November 3, 2026.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the PSN leadership delegation to the Light House, Awka.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, assured the delegation of the state’s full support towards the successful hosting of the conference.
According to the governor, the state government will provide comprehensive logistical and infrastructure support, including the preparation and security of key venues for the event.
Dr. Nwankwo expressed appreciation to the PSN for choosing Anambra as the host state, noting that the conference presents an opportunity to showcase the state’s growing infrastructure and tourism assets. He encouraged delegates to visit landmark projects such as Solution Fun City and the Anambra State Country Club during their stay.
# The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has disclosed that the state legislature is putting finishing touches on a Rent Control Law aimed at regulating house rents, agency fees, and other practices within the housing sector.
Udeze made the revelation on Wednesday during a media briefing at his office in Awka to mark the third anniversary of the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly.
According to the Speaker, the proposed legislation goes beyond rent regulation and is designed to address concerns surrounding the activities of property agents and other challenges affecting tenants and landlords across the state.
“The rent control law is receiving finishing touches. It is not just about rent control; it will also address issues relating to agents and other practices in the housing sector. We are optimistic that when it comes into effect, it will bring relief to residents and restore sanity to the system,” Udeze stated.
# The Corps Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS5.3 Anambra State Command, has paid a courtesy visit to Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, the Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the FRSC and local government authorities.
The visit provided an opportunity for constructive discussions on road safety awareness, traffic management, accident prevention, and strategies for promoting safer road use across communities within Njikoka.
The Sector Commander emphasized the importance of partnership between government institutions, community leaders, and road users in reducing road crashes and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The Mayor welcomed the delegation and commended the FRSC for its commitment to road safety and public service. He reaffirmed the readiness of the Njikoka Local Government Administration to support initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety education, enforcement, and community engagement.
# As the Anambra State 8th legislature holds her 3rd anniversary on Friday June 12 this year, lawmakers say that the current legislature is the best thing that ever happened to the state especially with the enactment of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law and other laws that have engendered economic growth and advancement in the state.
Some lawmakers who spoke at the House of Assembly complex Awka, stated that apart from the positive impacts of the Homeland Security Law and other legislations enacted by the current legislature, the 8th assembly has equally helped Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to succeed in the administration and governance of the state.

that the Homeland Security Law enacted by the 8th assembly has fought insecurity head-on and entrenched peace in the state.
# The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Ezeka Augustine Uwaeme as the new Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA).
Dr. Uwaeme was screened and confirmed during plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze.
During the screening exercise, Dr. Uwaeme responded to questions from lawmakers, including the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Honourable Tony Muobuike. He pledged to sustain the agency’s progress by consolidating and expanding the achievements of his predecessor to improve access to healthcare services across Anambra State.
Following a review of his credentials and presentation, members of the Assembly unanimously approved his nomination.
Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeze commended Dr. Uwaeme for what he described as a professional performance during the screening process and urged him to demonstrate dedication and commitment in his new position.
Rt. Hon. Udeze also encouraged the new ASHIA boss to work closely with the House Committee on Health to ensure quality healthcare delivery for registered beneficiaries.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Uwaeme expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for nominating him and thanked members of the 8th Assembly for confirming his appointment.
Speaking with House correspondents in an interview after the confirmation, the new Executive Secretary disclosed that ASHIA is planning a workshop aimed at educating hospitals and strengthening healthcare service delivery across the state.
He further revealed that 179 hospitals are currently enrolled as private healthcare providers under the agency and are listed on ASHIA’s official platform.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Agummadu has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving electricity supply and safeguarding power infrastructure across the state.
Engr. Agummadu gave the assurance while receiving the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Power Limited, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor and members of his management team during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Power and Water Resources in Awka.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in addressing challenges within the power sector, pledging the ministry’s support in ensuring the success of First Power’s operations in Anambra State.
He noted that the ministry would continue to work closely with relevant security agencies, including Homeland Security, to combat the persistent vandalism of electricity infrastructure, describing it as a major threat to the growth and sustainability of the sector.
According to him, reliable electricity supply remains a critical driver of economic development, industrial growth and improved living standards for residents of the state.
