The Anambra State Government has approved a strategic partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) to host the society’s 99th Annual National Conference, scheduled to commence on November 3, 2026.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the PSN leadership delegation to the Light House, Awka.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, assured the delegation of the state’s full support towards the successful hosting of the conference.
According to the governor, the state government will provide comprehensive logistical and infrastructure support, including the preparation and security of key venues for the event.
Dr. Nwankwo expressed appreciation to the PSN for choosing Anambra as the host state, noting that the conference presents an opportunity to showcase the state’s growing infrastructure and tourism assets. He encouraged delegates to visit landmark projects such as Solution Fun City and the Anambra State Country Club during their stay.
Speaking on the conference theme, Ijele 2026, the governor described the Ijele masquerade as a revered symbol of grandeur, leadership, and cultural excellence in Igbo heritage, adding that the theme reflects the significance and expected impact of the gathering.
To ensure a seamless event, he disclosed that the state government will immediately establish a Local Organising Committee (LOC) to collaborate closely with the national leadership of the PSN.
In his remarks, the National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, thanked Governor Soludo for receiving the delegation and commended his administration’s achievements in governance and development.
He praised the state’s fiscal discipline, innovation-driven governance, infrastructure expansion, and investment-friendly policies, noting that these factors influenced the society’s decision to select Anambra as the conference host.
Pharm. Ibrahim stated that the choice of Anambra reflects the confidence of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector in the state’s industrialisation agenda, healthcare improvements, human capital development, and economic growth strategy.
He further noted that the conference will serve as a major build-up to the society’s centenary celebration in 2027, marking 100 years since its establishment in 1927.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the 99th Annual National Conference is expected to attract about 5,000 participants, including pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, healthcare professionals, policymakers, investors, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
More than 300 pharmaceutical manufacturers, importers, distributors, and service providers are also expected to participate, making it one of the largest professional healthcare gatherings in the West African sub-region.
