# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has urged Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the principles that sustain equity, inclusiveness, unity and growth which are hallmarks of democracy, with total adherence to the rule of law for the peace and development of the country.

In his Democracy Day Message to Nigerians, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that democracy is strengthened not by creation of political offices and appointments, but by positive result in services, programmes and projects that impact the lives of the people meaningfully, stressing that democracy is not gifted but earned through the courage of citizens to ensuring justice and fairness.

The Speaker who enjoined the Federal Government to Immortalize those who contributed immensely to achieve democratic rule in the country, urged Nigerians to continue to nurture and enforce democracy as well as pay necessary tributes to Heroes of Democracy in the country especially the departed ones.

Rt. Hon. Udeze commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for upholding and advancing democracy in the State by running an all inclusive government where children, youth and aged ones are given the opportunity to participate in the affairs concerning them as well as enthroning peace unity, prosperity and development of the State.

He called on Nigerian leaders to always work towards the overall well-being of the masses both in policies and development actions.

# The Diocese of Aguata, Anglican Communion, has called on the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive steps to tackle Nigeria’s growing insecurity, warning that the situation is threatening peaceful coexistence and national stability.

The appeal was contained in a seven-point communiqué issued at the conclusion of the Third Session of the Seventh Synod of the Diocese, held at St Andrew’s Parish, Ezira, in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The communiqué, jointly signed by the President of the Synod and Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, and the Clerical Synod Secretary, Rev. Canon Uzochukwu Muojekwu, expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation across the country.

According to the church leaders, urgent and practical measures are needed to curb violence, protect lives and property, and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions.

The Synod also condemned the persistent high level of corruption in the country, describing it as a major impediment to national development, good governance, and economic progress.

# The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has flagged off construction of 1km of road in Ogunzelle village, Awka-Etiti.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Obi applauded Chief Okey Offor for taking the bold step, stating that construction of roads, electricity and modern borehole water developed communities.

Council Mayor noted that construction of the road would make it more easier for people to access other towns and open it up for more business opportunities.

She urged the residents of Ogunzelle village to cooperate with AKOS construction company so that they will deliver a quality road before the three months deadline.

The flag-off was attended by Mayoral candidate, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu, Local Government Secretary, Hon. Evaristus Ofido, Political appointees, Stakeholders, Councillors, Women leader and youth leader.

# The Ezioko Erosion Emergency Group, a stakeholders’ intervention body responsible for monitoring flood channels, drains, and emergency response activities, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for approving the construction of a floodwater diversion channel at Ezioko, Oko-Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area.

According to the Anambra State Executive Council, the state government approved the sum of N801,674,399.75 for the construction of the floodwater diversion channel. The contract was awarded to Lebtech Construction Ltd.

Speaking on behalf of the group, its Coordinator, Chief Handel Okoli, described the approval as a timely response to an earlier appeal made to the governor following the sudden collapse of a major drainage system that conveys floodwater from Nanka and surrounding communities to Ezioko Village and parts of Oko.

Okoli noted that without immediate intervention, the situation could have escalated during the current rainy season, resulting in more severe environmental and infrastructural damage.

He expressed appreciation to the governor for the prompt action and urged the administration to sustain efforts in addressing other erosion-prone areas within Ezioko and the wider Oko community.

According to him, the group’s primary responsibility is to conduct regular integrity assessments of drainage systems and flood channels while responding swiftly to emerging threats before they worsen.

# In a decisive move to reinforce accountability and institutional discipline within the basic education sector, the Executive Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, has approved a comprehensive review of all teacher transfers effected across the Local Government Education Authorities.

Speaking to newsmen in her office, Dr. Anyadiegwu said the intervention reflects the Board’s commitment to due process, transparency, and equitable deployment of teachers, in line with the reform-driven vision of the Anambra State Government under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, whose administration continues to prioritize quality education as a foundation for sustainable development.

She noted that, as part of the reform measures, ASUBEB has constituted a high-level Transfer Committee to oversee, process, and coordinate all staff transfer matters within the Board, ensuring that decisions are guided strictly by merit, necessity, and the overall interest of the education system.

The ASUBEB Chairman pointed out that, consequently, Officers-in-Charge of the Local Government Education Authorities have been directed to cease issuing or approving transfer documents, as such responsibilities now reside exclusively with the Committee, while any transfer carried out outside the approved process will be regarded as null and void.

Reaffirming her commitment to efficient and accountable governance, Dr. Anyadiegwu emphasized that the reforms are designed to strengthen institutional integrity, eliminate irregularities, and ensure that teacher deployment effectively supports improved learning outcomes across Anambra State.

# The member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Afam Ogene, has criticised Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for abandoning the oil-producing communities in his constituency.

Ogene, who lamented the lack of basic amenities like road, electricity, pipe borne water, and others in the communities, said that Soludo is only interested in the oil revenues he gets from the oil-rich towns.

“Ogwuaniocha and Ogwuikpele. Those are the communities that have made Anambra an oil producing state, for which the state government receives derivation in billions of Naira over the last two years or three.

“If I do a calculation, I will tell you the exact figures they have received. But is the government holding those oil firms to account? Now they are talking about siting a modular refinery in my own community”. Ogene said.

# Hon. Barr. Uzoma Eli has commenced a constituency-wide thank-you tour across Onitsha South one Constituency, saying gratitude should come before celebration and service must remain at the heart of politics.

Fresh from his decisive victory at the APGA primary election, which confirmed him as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election, the former lawmaker is touring all 10 electoral wards to appreciate party faithful, stakeholders, community leaders, youth and women groups, and residents whose support contributed to his emergence.

Eli represented Onitsha South one in the Anambra State House of Assembly from 2019 to 2023. During his tenure, he earned recognition for people-oriented representation, community development projects, empowerment programmes, and legislative interventions aimed at improving the welfare of his constituents.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Eddy Ibuzo, has met with public and private park operators, transporters, and key government agencies in Awka for an interface on achievements, challenges, complaints, and the way forward in the state’s transport sector, while urging transporters and private park operators to comply with government directives, especially in the payment of taxes and dues as directed by relevant agencies, and promising to look into the complaints and challenges raised during the meeting.

Ibuzo, explained that the change the transport sector deserves has come, noting that he would protect the interest of a better Anambra, as the state government is currently doing so much in road infrastructure and security, positively impacting the transport sector, while emphasizing that the revenue needed to sustain the good works must be generated and that all parks must be registered and operate within the ambit of government directives.

On the issues of parks, designated passenger pick-up points, and the continued harassment of motorists by some state agencies such as the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) and the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), the Commissioner promised to look into the matters and tackle the challenges head-on in collaboration with the agencies, while also emphasizing that the government will not, in any way, shield defaulters.

# The Anambra State Multi-Stakeholders Action Committee on the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence (MAP GBV), under the theme, “Uniting Community Stakeholders for Grassroots Action Against Gender-Based Violence in Nnewi North and South,” has intensified its community sensitisation campaign on the prevention of and response to gender-based violence across Nnewi North and Nnewi South Local Government Areas.

The programme, championed by the Anambra State Government in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria, brought together community leaders, stakeholders, women’s groups, youth representatives, and persons with disabilities to strengthen efforts aimed at eliminating all forms of gender-based violence.

Chairman of the committee and Traditional Ruler of Olumbanasa, Igwe Pius Omachonu, said the initiative was designed to mobilise stakeholders to become active participants in preventing gender-based violence within their communities and stressed the need for mutual understanding and shared responsibilities among family members, noting that changing social realities require more inclusive roles for both men and women.

Resource persons, Hajia Musbaudeen Medinat and Mrs. Favour Abarah, provided participants with an overview of gender-based violence, describing it as harmful acts directed at individuals or groups based on their sex, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity, while highlighting various forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and economic violence, as well as underage and forced marriage, sexual harassment, and discriminatory inheritance practices.

The facilitators encouraged residents to embrace positive family values, maintain zero tolerance for gender-based violence, and strengthen communication within families and communities through partnerships and collective action.

# ‌‎The Anambra State Government has commenced the issuance of demolition notices to more than 500 owners and occupiers of illegal, dilapidated, and unsafe structures across Nnewi.

This is part of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s ambitious urban renewal programme aimed at transforming the commercial city.

‌‎The exercise, led by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, marks the first phase of a comprehensive regeneration initiative designed to restore order, improve infrastructure, and reposition Nnewi as a modern industrial and commercial hub.
‌‎Affected structures include shanties erected beneath high-tension power lines, buildings constructed without approved setbacks, and unauthorized developments.

Others are: filling stations, hotels, and other decrepit structures considered hazardous to public safety and urban development.

‎Speaking during the enforcement exercise, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu, said the action is in line with Governor Soludo’s vision of building a cleaner, safer, and more orderly urban environment.

He added that it lays the foundation for the comprehensive regeneration of Nnewi and the restoration of its position as a premier industrial and commercial hub.
