Peter Obi Urges Dialogue With Separatist Agitators to Foster National Unity

Opposition leader Peter Obi has urged the engagement and reconciliation of all political agitators, including detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho, as a pathway to national unity ahead of future elections.

In a statement, Obi acknowledged disagreements with the agitators but stressed the need for dialogue.

“I do not agree to everything Nnamdi Kanu said or did. In fact, he’s said all sorts of things against me. But I maintain that, for us to unite this country and forge ahead, we must engage and reconcile all agitators, including the likes of Sunday Igboho,” Obi said.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over how to address separatist movements in Nigeria’s southeast and southwest regions, where groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Yoruba self-determination advocates have pushed for greater autonomy or secession.

Obi, who has positioned himself as a voice for national restructuring and inclusive governance, argued that reconciliation was essential to move the country forward.
