Moroccan international and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi will face trial in France on rape charges after a court rejected his appeal to dismiss the case.
The Versailles appeals court confirmed on Friday that the 27-year-old PSG player must stand trial over allegations dating back to February 2023, when a woman then aged 24 accused him of raping her at his home in the Val-de-Marne region southeast of Paris.
Hakimi, who captains the Moroccan national team currently competing in the 2026 World Cup, has consistently denied the claims.
In a post on X shortly after the ruling, he expressed readiness for the proceedings. “I am eagerly awaiting my trial… to finally speak,” Hakimi wrote, while maintaining his innocence.
The player remains under judicial supervision but has continued his professional career, including featuring for Morocco in the ongoing World Cup.
His legal team had sought to have the case thrown out, arguing the accusations rest solely on the complainant’s account. A trial date has not yet been set.
The development comes as Hakimi plays a key role for Morocco in the expanded global tournament.
