# A Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu JohnPaul Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya,” has been granted bail in the sum of N50 million by an Anambra State High Court presided over by Justice Jude Obiora.
The court also imposed additional bail conditions, including the provision of one surety and the deposit of the title documents of the defendant’s residence.
The court ruled that the property would be forfeited should the defendant fail to comply with the bail terms or abscond during the trial.
Furthermore, Justice Obiora directed the defendant not to grant media interviews or make public statements relating to the case while the trial is ongoing.
Speaking with journalists after the court proceedings, one of the defence counsel, Barrister Kingsley Awuka, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, describing the court as fair and gracious in granting the bail application.
According to him, the conditions attached to the bail are within the capacity of the defendant to meet, adding that the defence team remains confident that justice will prevail.
Ezenagu is facing charges bordering on alleged violations of provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr. Law Mefor, has advised students of Political Science to place greater emphasis on their academic pursuits while participating in student union activities, noting that politics and academics do not easily go hand in hand.
Dr. Mefor gave the advice when he received a delegation of the National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), led by its President, Comrade Achor Armstrong, during a courtesy visit to his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, has disclosed that the state’s sports development policy will focus on grassroots participation, with local governments playing a central role in talent discovery and development.
Speaking while receiving members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, the Commissioner emphasized that the Ministry’s strategy is aimed at harnessing sporting talents across communities and schools in the state.
Hon. Agha Mba expressed appreciation to SWAN for the courtesy visit, describing the association’s leadership as proactive and passionate about sports development.
Earlier, SWAN Chairman in Anambra State, Comrade Chimezie Anaso, commended Governor Soludo for appointing a dedicated Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development and expressed confidence in Agha Mba’s ability to reposition sports in the state.

# The Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education (FTVE), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art solar energy system aimed at providing a stable and sustainable power supply to enhance teaching, research and administrative efficiency within the Faculty.
The project, which features a 22KVA hybrid inverter system, 20.48KW lithium battery capacity and high-efficiency 630W Jinko solar panels, marks another milestone in the Faculty’s quest to create an enabling environment for staff and students to attain greater productivity and academic excellence.
Speaking during the inauguration, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Comfort Chimezie Okolocha, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for his support and special attention to the Faculty. She explained that the initiative became necessary owing to the epileptic power supply often experienced and the need to ensure that both academic and non-teaching staff maximize their potentials.
According to her, the solar energy project would guarantee uninterrupted power supply, provide a conducive work environment, and ultimately contribute to the attainment of greater milestones in teaching, research and service delivery.

# The attention of the leadership and stakeholders of Amaokpala community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State has been drawn to a disturbing old video currently circulating on social media, which has been falsely associated with the community.
The video, which depicts a violent incident, is being shared online with misleading captions alleging that it occurred in Amaokpala. The community has firmly dismissed this claim as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.
In a clear statement, community representatives emphasized that no such incident has ever taken place in Amaokpala, stressing that the community remains peaceful, stable, and free of the kind of violent activity portrayed in the circulating footage.
They expressed concern over the increasing misuse of old or unrelated videos to misrepresent communities, warning that such misinformation damages reputations and creates unnecessary fear and misunderstanding among the public.
# The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state police command to combating child labour, safeguarding the rights and welfare of children across the state.
Speaking while receiving a delegation from Beecharity Outlook Foundation during a courtesy visit to the State Police Headquarters on June 12, in commemoration of the 2026 International Day Against Child Labour, the commissioner assured the organisation of the command’s readiness to support initiatives and enforce laws aimed at protecting children from exploitation.
CP Orutugu described child labour as a persistent social challenge that deprives children of their rights, education and opportunities for a better future, noting that many children are forced into labour due to systemic failures within families and society, emphasizing the need for sustained public enlightenment and stakeholder engagement.
Earlier, the Chairman of Beecharity Outlook Foundation, Dr. Paul Nwosu, described the theme of this year’s commemoration, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults,” as timely and compelling.
He urged government agencies, civil society organisations, parents and community leaders to reject all forms of child exploitation and create an enabling environment where children can learn, grow and achieve their full potential.
# The Anambra State House of Assembly has called for the immediate prosecution of a couple accused of subjecting a 10-year-old boy to severe abuse, urging the state government to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting children and enforcing existing child rights laws.
The resolution followed a motion moved during plenary by the member representing Onitsha North one Constituency, Hon. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe.
Presenting the motion, Azikiwe noted that the Anambra State Child Rights Law of 2006 expressly prohibits child abuse, neglect, ill-treatment and exploitation, describing such acts as criminal offences under Sections 16 and 20 of the law.
She further explained that Sections 21 to 33 provide penalties for offences including unlawful sexual intercourse with a child, child trafficking, child labour, abduction and exposure of children to pornographic materials, thereby providing a legal framework for the prosecution of offenders.
Presiding over the session, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, commended Azikiwe for sponsoring the motion and disclosed that he had personally visited the victim.
Rt. Hon. Udeze questioned what further measures the Assembly could take to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing the need to amend aspects of the Child Rights Law and introduce stronger regulations governing the care of children placed in other households.
He stated that the husband of the woman involved should also face investigation as the head of the household, while the landlord of the compound should be questioned regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse.
# The Mayor of Oyi Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Nweke has been recognized by the Anambra State Ministry of Health as the third-best performing mayor in primary healthcare delivery among the 21 local government areas in the state.
The recognition was announced during an award ceremony held at the Light House and organized by the Anambra State Ministry of Health in collaboration with development partners, including UNICEF, USAID, and the World Bank.
The programme was designed to acknowledge and reward local government leaders who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to strengthening primary healthcare systems and improving health outcomes within their communities.
