Sowore Remanded in Kuje Prison Over Cybercrime Charges

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore at Kuje Correctional Centre over a two-count cybercrime charge

Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, is accused by the Department of State Services (DSS) of calling President Bola Tinubu a “criminal” in a social media post.

Trial Justice Mohammed Umar revoked Sowore’s earlier bail and issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court on June 16 to open his defence.

The activist had chosen to represent himself following the withdrawal of his legal team.033cde

On Monday, Justice Umar dismissed an application seeking his disqualification from the case on grounds of alleged bias.

Sowore will remain in custody until Wednesday when the trial resumes.
