ASTUC Youths Honour Eight Outstanding Community Role Models In Ayamelum LGA

The Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC) has honoured eight distinguished individuals as outstanding community role models in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The recognition ceremony, held at the Ayamelum Local Government Secretariat in Anaku, was aimed at inspiring young people to embrace positive values, leadership, and community service.

The honoured role models, selected from the eight communities in Ayamelum, were: Barr. Onuamah Ignatius Emenike (Omasi), Bro. Anthony Nwalieji Chinweuba (Igbakwu), Hon. Chukwuma Nwalieji Reuben (Umumbo), Chief. Chimezie Cosmas Onyibor (Umueje), Chief. Ikechukwu Nobert Nebiefe (Anaku),
Barr. Benjamin Anyafulu Onyeabo (Omor),
Chief Ogugua Ebuka (Umerum), Engr. Paul Okafor (Ifite Ogwari).

Hon. Maureen Chinwe Gwacham and Mr.
Alphonsus Ofumelu received Special Leadership and Community Service Awards.

As part of the celebration, all award recipients received cosmetic products donated by GVS Cosmetics Ltd through its Cosmo Cosmetics brand in recognition of their contributions to society and support for youth development initiatives.

Representing the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, reiterated the administration’s commitment to equitable development across all communities in the state. He urged youths to support government programmes, embrace hard work, and reject criminal activities, warning against the pursuit of fraudulent wealth and other destructive practices.

The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, represented by Director of Youth, Mr. Martins Ezeilo, congratulated the awardees and encouraged young people to acquire practical skills through the state’s “One Youth, Two Skills” programme, which has empowered thousands of youths.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Chimezie Okoye, charged the newly honoured role models to continue serving as ambassadors of good governance and community development, noting that many young people look up to them for inspiration.

In his remarks, ASTUC Youth President, Comrade Ken Okoli, described the award recipients as individuals who embody the values of integrity, leadership, and service. He explained that communities are expected to nominate role models annually through a structured process designed to promote positive examples for younger generations.

Also speaking, APGA chairmanship candidate for Ayamelum Local Government Area, Mgbechi Emmanuel Igwebuike, emphasized the importance of youth empowerment and pledged greater inclusion of young people in governance and development initiatives if elected.

Responding on behalf of the awardees, Chukwuma Reuben, Chimezie Onyibor, and Bro. Chinweuba Dieli expressed appreciation for the honour and pledged to continue serving as positive examples in their communities.

They urged youths to embrace peace, shun violence, and avoid actions that could hinder development in Ayamelum Local Government Area.
