Belgium mounted a remarkable fightback from two goals down to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time and advance to the World Cup round of 16 on Wednesday.
Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the 86th minute before Youri Tielemans equalised three minutes later. Tielemans then converted a controversial penalty deep in extra time to seal the victory at Lumen Field.
Senegal had led through goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr but were unable to hold on as Belgium refused to surrender. The result sets up a last-16 meeting with either the United States or Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For the second time in three World Cups, Belgium overturned a two-goal deficit in a knockout match, echoing their famous 2018 win over Japan.
