Neymar Retires From Brazil Duty After 2026 World Cup Exit

Brazil superstar Neymar has announced his retirement from international football following his country’s round-of-16 elimination at the 2026 World Cup.

The 34-year-old made the announcement after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway, in which he scored a late penalty to bring his international tally to 80 goals in 130 appearances, along with 59 assists.

“I tried. I tried. It started here at MetLife stadium and I finished here. It is now over,” Neymar told reporters after the match.

His fitness had been a major topic ahead of the tournament, yet coach Carlo Ancelotti included him in the squad. Neymar helped Brazil win the 2013 Confederations Cup and Olympic gold in 2016, but leaves the national team after failing to secure another major title.
