# Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has called on public relations practitioners to partner with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in restoring the state’s image through the government’s moral rebirth and value reformation campaign.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, Mefor said the ministry’s expanded mandate now includes value reformation, making collaboration with public relations professionals vital to achieving the government’s objectives.

He lamented that Anambra’s reputation as the “Light of the Nation” had suffered in recent years due to the erosion of core Igbo values and the criminalisation of Biafran agitation.

In her remarks, the Anambra State Chairman of NIPR, Dr. Ngozi Ulogu, said the institute was seeking a strategic partnership with the ministry to combat misinformation and effectively communicate the policies and programmes of the Soludo administration.

The institute’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ogemdi Ozoemenam, noted that federal information officers are automatically members of the NIPR and appealed for the same arrangement to be extended to Anambra State information officers.

Also speaking, the institute’s Secretary, Dr. Chinedu Ekweonu, observed that Anambra’s once-admired image had been weakened by criminal activities, stressing that Governor Soludo’s value reorientation agenda was essential to restoring the state’s dignity.

# The Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC) has honoured nine distinguished individuals from the nine communities in Awka South Local Government Area for their outstanding contributions to society and positive influence on young people.

The recipients were recognised for inspiring hope through their personal sacrifices, achievements, and commitment to hard work, discipline, humility, and community service.

The awardees are Dr. Ugochukwu Morah (Awka), Chief Kenechukwu Ekwueme (Nibo), Chief Uchechukwu Nwoye (Okpuno), Chief Ugochukwu Nwokoye (Amawbia), Chief Stephen Okoli (Ezinator), Mr. Chuka Emenia (Mbaukwu), Comrade Chika Orji (Umuawulu), Arc. Ifeanyi Obi (Nise), and Chief Chekwube Okoli (Isiagu).

Representing Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, congratulated the honourees and urged youths across the state to continue making meaningful contributions to society.

He stressed that the actions of a few criminal elements “living in the bush” do not define the character or potential of Anambra youths.

Speaking at the event, the President-General of the ASTUC Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, said the awardees were nominated by their respective communities in recognition of their impactful lives and service. He encouraged them to continue serving as role models and mentors to the younger generation.

Responding on behalf of the recipients, Dr. Ugochukwu Morah and Chief Uchechukwu Nwoye expressed appreciation to the youth body for the honour and pledged to remain worthy examples in their communities.

# The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has raised concerns over the indiscriminate disposal of domestic waste into drainage channels, describing the practice as a major threat to ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the state.

The committee made the observation during an oversight visit to inspect the 1.8-kilometre interlocking road and drainage project at Iyiowa Odekpe.

Speaking during the inspection, the contractor handling the project, Engineer Jack Afara, lamented that some residents channel wastewater from their buildings into public drainage systems, warning that the practice could damage the drains and reduce the lifespan of the road infrastructure.

According to him, the drainage channels have already started silting up only a few months after construction began. He explained that although the wastewater may not immediately affect the interlocking pavement, continuous dumping of domestic waste into the drains would obstruct the free flow of water and create long-term environmental and structural problems.

Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Emma Nwafor, said the committee was on an investigative oversight visit to assess the quality and progress of projects being executed by contractors across the state.

He expressed satisfaction with the standard and pace of work at the Iyiowa Odekpe project, noting that the drainage system, interlocking pavement, and other structural components were being properly executed.

# The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Bishop Samuel Ezeofor, has called on married couples to seek God’s grace in protecting their families against the attacks of the devil.

Bishop Ezeofor made the call during a sermon at St. Mary’s Church, Umuomaku at a special thanksgiving service marking the end of the 21st Aguata Diocesan Women’s Conference. He described the family as the smallest but most important unit of both the Church and society.

According to the bishop, attacks on marriages remain one of the devil’s easiest strategies for destabilizing society. He urged couples to remain steadfast and resist every attempt to undermine their homes.

Speaking on the conference theme, “God’s Great Task for the Church: The Great Commitment – Raising a Godly Generation,” Bishop Ezeofor attributed many of society’s challenges to ungodliness. He urged participants to internalize the conference’s message and promote godly values within their families, churches, and communities to raise a generation grounded in faith and moral uprightness.

The prelate, who also serves as the National Chairman of the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion Nigeria, observed that the increasing practice of taking oaths during church activities, including ordinations and admission into knighthood, reflects a growing lack of trust. He encouraged Christians to live lives marked by integrity, trustworthiness, and confidence.

# In a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency and operational capacity of the state’s judicial arm, the Anambra State Government, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has officially presented brand-new SUVs to ten members of the state judiciary.

The presentation ceremony, held at the Light House, Awka, was presided over by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, who represented Governor Soludo.

Speaking during the handover of the vehicles, Mrs. Nnake emphasized that the gesture is part of the current administration’s unwavering commitment to fostering a seamless working environment for the judiciary. She noted that providing the necessary logistics for judicial officers is vital for the effective administration of justice and the overall promotion of the rule of law in Anambra State.

Mrs. Nnake further reiterated the Soludo-led administration’s “Solution” agenda, which prioritizes the strengthening of all arms of government to deliver improved services to ndi Anambra. She reaffirmed that the state government remains dedicated to supporting the judiciary in its pursuit of timely and equitable justice delivery.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has joined family, friends, and associates to celebrate the 80th birthday of Justice Paul Obidigwe.

Speaking at the event held in Onitsha, the Governor lauded the jurist for a lifetime of distinguished service and significant contributions to the development of Anambra State.

Prof. Soludo emphasized that Justice Obidigwe’s life serves as a testament to the value of impactful living, noting that the honoree has left an indelible mark on the judiciary, the church, and the broader society.

The Governor highlighted that Justice Obidigwe continues to demonstrate his commitment to public service, most recently evidenced by his submission of a formal report regarding the Awka kinship dispute, remarked that the biography launched in honor of the Justice stands as an inspiring blueprint for citizens to emulate.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has stressed the need for youths to play a central role in the Solution Government’s efforts to restore Anambra’s value system, saying that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is counting on young people to drive the state’s moral and ethical revolution.

Dr. Mefor made the remark in Awka recently while receiving a delegation of the Youth Wing of the Anambra State Association of Town Union Council (ASTUC), led by its Youth Chairman, Comrade Ken Okoli. He explained that discussions on Anambra’s ethical and moral rebirth have been ongoing and that the state government is set to introduce a law that will provide the legal framework for enforcing the initiative.

According to Mefor, the erosion of societal values has contributed significantly to rising criminality, including the pursuit of so-called bulletproof charms (odeshi) and involvement in drug trafficking. He described value reformation as a deep and far-reaching process that is fundamental to the identity and consciousness of the Igbo people.

Dr. Mefor lamented that Anambra has gradually abandoned the values that once earned the Igbo people respect, particularly the culture of hard work and apprenticeship.

Speaking earlier, the ASTUC Youth Chairman, Comrade Ken Okoli, reaffirmed the association’s support for the Soludo administration’s value reformation agenda, noting that it is anchored on discipline, justice, community spirit, patriotism, and tolerance.

# Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has emerged as the fourth-best performing university in Nigeria in the 2025 National Research Fund (NRF) TETFund Grant cycle after producing seven successful grant awardees among the 174 beneficiaries nationwide.

The achievement further strengthens the university’s reputation as a leading centre for research and innovation in Nigeria.

The beneficiaries are Prof. Ikwuka Obiageli, Prof. Kingsley Nwosu, Prof. Maryjane Iloameke, Prof. Chilota Efobi, Prof. Uchechukwu Dimkpa, Dr. Adaobi Obidiebube and Dr. Nkem Okoye.

The researchers recently paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, following the successful defence of their research proposals in Abuja, where they secured the highly competitive grants.

Leading the delegation, the Director of Research and Innovation, Prof. Azubike Ekpunobi, formally presented the awardees to the Vice-Chancellor, who later presented them with their grant award certificates.

Prof. Ekpunobi disclosed that UNIZIK ranked fourth nationally in the 2025 NRF TETFund Grant cycle, with individual grant awards ranging from ₦25 million to ₦39 million.

Congratulating the awardees, the Vice-Chancellor described their success as a landmark achievement for the university.

Prof. Anyaehie expressed satisfaction that the institution recorded its highest number of NRF TETFund Grant recipients under his administration, attributing the milestone to the university’s sustained commitment to promoting impactful research.

He urged the beneficiaries to execute their research projects diligently, adhere strictly to the timelines and conditions set by the funding agency, and uphold the university’s regulations throughout the implementation of their projects.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has assured the leadership of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) of the state government’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the education sector in Anambra State.

Dr. Ogugua gave the assurance during a familiarisation visit to the PPSSC Headquarters, Awka, where he met with Directors and Heads of Autonomous Units of the Commission.

In his remarks, the Commissioner explained that the visit was aimed at identifying the major challenges confronting the Commission and exploring practical solutions that would enhance the delivery of quality education across the state.

He emphasized that the success or failure of the education sector largely depends on the commitment of education administrators, particularly the directors, and urged them to work collectively towards restoring Anambra State’s education system to its enviable position of excellence.

Speaking during the meeting, the Secretary of the PPSSC, Mrs. Benedine Anagor, expressed optimism that the interaction would herald positive changes in the education sector and expressed confidence that the state government would give due consideration to the issues raised for the overall improvement of public secondary education in Anambra State.

During the interactive session, the Directors highlighted several pressing issues requiring urgent government attention, including the need to curb examination malpractice, recruit more qualified teaching and non-teaching staff in critical areas, provide adequate security for school personnel and facilities, and ensure regular training and retraining of staff.

Responding to the concerns, Dr. Ogugua stressed the importance of upholding integrity within the education system, noting that all stakeholders must work together to eliminate examination malpractice.

He assured the participants that the issues requiring government intervention would receive appropriate attention, reaffirming the government’s determination to strengthen the education sector.

# Officers of the Anambra State Anti-Touting Agency (SASA) have arrested several individuals for violating the state’s directive on the Saturday statewide desilting of drainage channels and evacuation of waste.

The suspects, who were drivers and residents, were apprehended on the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway after they were found opening their shops, loitering, and driving around the state during the environmental sanitation exercise, contrary to government directives.

Officials of the agency said the defaulters would be taken to the agency’s headquarters in Awka for further disciplinary action, stressing that the enforcement was aimed at ensuring total compliance with the sanitation exercise.

Meanwhile, Onitsha recorded massive compliance as residents were seen clearing drainage channels and evacuating refuse from their surroundings throughout the exercise.
