# The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned Mr. Ejike Ofoegbu, alleged owner and publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and iNews, before a competent court over allegations of publishing fabricated, false, and defamatory reports against the family of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arraignment took place on Monday, July 13, 2026, following the Command’s receipt of the suspect from the Department of State Services (DSS), Awka, and the conclusion of police investigations into a petition alleging the publication of false information capable of causing reputational harm and inciting public disaffection.

The Police said the suspect has been remanded in a correctional centre in the state pending further court proceedings.
The Command noted that it would refrain from making further comments on the matter to avoid prejudicing the ongoing judicial process.

SP. Ikenga also urged members of the public, media practitioners, and publishers to verify information before publication, adhere to the ethics of responsible journalism, and comply with extant laws governing the dissemination of information.

# The Anambra State Government joined the global celebration of the 2026 Olympic Day with a commemorative fitness walk aimed at promoting healthy living, grassroots sports development, and the values of the Olympic Movement.

The walk, organised by the Anambra State Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, commenced at the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Corporate Headquarters, Aroma, Awka, passed through UNIZIK Junction and the Kwata Flyover, and ended at the Awka City Stadium. It attracted sports stakeholders, football club owners, youth organisations, and fitness enthusiasts from across the state.

Speaking at the end of the exercise, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, said Olympic Day is celebrated worldwide to encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyles. He commended the Anambra State Government for its commitment to grassroots sports development through investments in sports infrastructure, including the completion of the Ekwulobia Township Stadium and Sports Club, while expressing optimism that more projects would follow.

He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to promoting the ideals of the Olympic Movement, stressing that physical fitness should become a daily lifestyle rather than a one-day event.

# The Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC) has honoured six distinguished individuals from six communities in Njikoka Local Government Area for their outstanding contributions to community development and service to Anambra State.

The recipients of the ASTUC Youth Recognition Awards are Chief Innocent Obelle (Nawfia), Hon. Dozie Nwankwo (Enugwu-Ukwu), Chief Humphrey Iloh (Abagana), Chief Cosmas Agagbo (Abba), Comrade Johnbosco Ementa (Enugwu-Agidi), and Chief Christopher Agbim (Nimo).

Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Udoji Amedu, congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to continue partnering with the state government through the Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) initiative to accelerate development across communities.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Chinedu Umeadi, represented by Mr. Uchenna Umeadi, urged young people to embrace legitimate means of livelihood, emphasizing that hard work, discipline and integrity remain the foundation of lasting success.

In his address, the President-General of the ASTUC Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, explained that the recognition programme is designed to celebrate individuals making meaningful impacts in their communities.

He disclosed that the initiative would be extended to all 21 local government areas of Anambra State to inspire youths to embrace hard work, resilience and community service, while encouraging successful individuals to invest in youth empowerment in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development vision.

Responding on behalf of the awardees, Chief Innocent Obelle, represented by Mr. Alex Ezechinwoke, and Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, represented by Mr. Darlington Ugezu, expressed appreciation to the ASTUC Youth Wing for the recognition.

# The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on child trafficking with the arrest of three female suspects in Onitsha.

The suspects, identified as Florence Nnakuzie, 45, Hannah Ugah, 52, and Chinasa Daniel, 27, were arrested by police operatives attached to the Awada Divisional Headquarters at a motor park in Onitsha.

According to preliminary investigations, Chinasa Daniel allegedly brought two children—a two-week-old baby and a four-year-old child—on separate occasions between June and December 2025 and handed them over to Hannah Ugah.

Police said Chinasa further disclosed that the four-year-old child was later handed over to Florence Nnakuzie and allegedly sold for ₦2 million, while the two-week-old baby was allegedly sold to another woman who remains at large.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, described child trafficking as a grave violation of human rights and a crime against humanity. He directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.

The Commissioner also ordered operatives to intensify efforts to identify and arrest other members of the suspected trafficking syndicate, while commencing coordinated operations to locate, rescue, and reunite the trafficked children with their biological families.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, commended members of the public whose timely and credible information led to the successful operation and urged residents to continue supporting the police with useful intelligence to combat crime in the state.

# ‎National publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mazi Ejimofor Opara has reacted to the recent political statement and backlash on the federal government and pastor EA Adeboye by Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje.

Ejimofor condemned Odumeje for speaking against bad government while failing to speak against the activities of IPOB, ESN and UGM in Odumeje’s state.

Ejimofor opined that Odumeje hasn’t been to his village for a long while because of the disastrous activities of IPOB ESN and UGM , and he is yet to condemn them the way he is condemning federal Government and his fellow pastor.

The APGA spokesperson also noted that Pastor Adeboye whom Odumeje was speaking against, is better than Odumeje and has sacrificed and contributed a lot to Nigeria than Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje.

Mazi Ejimofor maintained that Odumeje is one out of many comedians on the pulpit in this country today. He made reference to an assertion made by his friend Obi Emeka, who stated that our Igbo brothers are mediocre in the business of Pentecostal church. citing Odumeje as an evidence of that assertion, Ejimofor said;

# The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, has congratulated Prof. Victor Madubuko, Chairman of the Anambra State Beach Soccer Association, on his appointment as a member of the newly constituted interim Beach Soccer and Futsal Leagues Board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The NFF constituted the interim board during its Executive Committee meeting held on Saturday in Asaba, Delta State, assigning it the responsibility of organising Beach Soccer and Futsal leagues across the country.

Reacting to the development in Awka on Sunday, Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, Chimezie Anaso, described Madubuko’s appointment as a well-deserved recognition of his immense contributions to the growth of beach soccer in the state.

Anaso expressed confidence that Madubuko would bring his wealth of experience to the board and contribute significantly to the development and success of Beach Soccer and Futsal leagues in Nigeria.

According to the NFF communiqué, the interim board is chaired by Mahmud Hadejia and includes Prof. Victor Madubuko, Dele Gbajumo, Nkopuye Ukpe, Abdul-Nasir Adamu Senchi, Mohammed-Bukar Alau, and Onome Ebi as members.

# ‎Prudent Tutors Demonstration Secondary School, Nnewi, has emerged as the overall winner in both the Junior and Senior Secondary School categories of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Nnewi North Chapter Quiz Competition.

‎The Proprietor and Founder of the school, Hon. Paul Moneke, JP, disclosed that the highly competitive contest, held on July 4, attracted private secondary schools from across Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra State and showcased exceptional academic talent.

‎At the end of the competition, Prudent Tutors Demonstration Secondary School delivered an outstanding performance, securing first place in both the junior and senior categories to emerge overall champion.

‎The remarkable feat earned the school two prestigious trophies, further affirming its reputation as a centre of academic excellence and quality education.

‎Reacting to the achievement, Hon. Moneke expressed profound gratitude to God for the success. He applauded the students for their determination and brilliance.

# Anambra Patriots, a socio-political group, has held a reception in honour of its members recently appointed to key government positions.

The honourees included the group’s Convener, Arch. Okey Ezeobi, who was appointed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, and Mr. Chukwuemeka Agbata, who was reappointed as the Managing Director of the Anambra State ICT Agency.

Also honoured was the President of Anambra Country Club, Awka, Chief Damian Enekwechi, who also serves as the Chairman of Anambra Patriots.

Speaking on behalf of the celebrants, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Architect Okey Ezeobi expressed gratitude to the group for the recognition and thanked Governor Soludo for considering them worthy to serve the state in their respective capacities.

Chairman of the group, Chief Enekwechi, said the appointees would serve as shining examples of the group’s core values of promoting good governance and accountability. He assured Governor Soludo of their commitment to supporting and delivering his vision for Anambra State during his second term in office.

Earlier, Igwe Ben Emeka of Umueri, in his opening remarks, urged members of Anambra Patriots to remain steadfast in championing good governance, integrity, and accountability in all their endeavours.



# The Solution Innovation District (SID) has announced new job openings for qualified people in Anambra State. The job vacancies were made public in a notice shared on SID’s official Facebook page.

According to SID, the recruitment is aimed at giving skilled people the chance to work, grow in their careers, and support the development of Anambra’s digital economy.

The programme is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s plan to make Anambra a leading centre for technology, innovation, and job creation in Nigeria.

The available positions are Mid-Level Software Developer, Telesales Associate, and Technical Support Officer.
The Mid-Level Software Developer will develop secure software, work with other team members, and help improve digital platforms.

People who are interested in any of the positions have been asked to apply through the online application portal or by scanning the QR code provided in the recruitment notice.

 

# The Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze, has assured residents of Umuoba-Anam community of prompt government action on the two-storey classroom block at Community Secondary School, Umuoba-Anam that was in a dilapidated state.

Speaking with news men, Hon Chinweze said that government has taken note of the condition of the structure and will carry out lasting remedial work to prevent any future incident and ensure a safe learning environment for students.

He called on stakeholders to play active roles in protecting public infrastructure in their communities.

The Mayor also advocated for Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model as a way for communities to support government in providing infrastructure such as classrooms, healthcare centres, and other amenities, especially in rural areas.

He cited examples from within and around Anambra East where the model had worked.

While reaffirming that Community Secondary School, Umuoba-Anam will receive government attention, the Chairman urged community stakeholders to act as first responders by reporting issues early and supporting maintenance efforts.
