Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association, becoming the first woman to win the position directly in a vote and the 33rd president-elect of the body.
Badejo-Okusanya secured victory with 12,317 votes in the election held on Saturday. The 59-year-old legal practitioner was born in Lagos and educated at the University of Lagos, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English before obtaining her law degree and an LL.M in commercial and corporate law from Queen Mary University of London.
She has served as senior special assistant on justice sector reform to former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola and is a founding partner at Africa Law Practice NG & Co. In 2025, she was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
The new president-elect is the sister of Industry Minister Jumoke Oduwole. Her election marks a historic milestone for the NBA, following Priscilla Kuye’s brief leadership through succession in the early 1990s.
