FIFA has distributed a record $655 million in performance prize money at the 2026 World Cup, with champions Spain receiving the largest share of $50 million.
Runners-up Argentina earned $33 million, while third-placed England took home $29 million and fourth-placed France $27 million. Quarter-finalists each received $19 million, with further payments scaling down to $9 million for teams eliminated in the group stage.
The prize pool represents a nearly 50 percent increase from the $440 million awarded in 2022. “The 2026 FIFA World Cup is awarding $655 million in performance prize money, making it the richest tournament in the competition’s history,” the report noted.
Every knockout victory unlocked larger payouts, incentivising progression in the expanded 48-team format.
Spain’s triumph capped an unbeaten campaign, while the overall distribution underscored the growing financial stakes of the tournament.
