SWAN Urges Anambra Journalists To Engage In Sports Activities

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State chapter, has urged journalists and other media professionals to engage in sporting activities to promote physical fitness and mental well-being.

The Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, Chimezie Anaso, made the call on Monday while speaking on the association’s forthcoming maiden SWAN Sports Week.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the two-day event, themed “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment,” is scheduled to hold on August 20 and 21 at the Cosmilla Hotel Sports Arena in Awka.
The Sports Week will feature a 5-Aside football competition, table tennis, Ludo and draughts.

Anaso said the initiative was designed to promote physical fitness, mental alertness and healthy relaxation among journalists and members of other participating organisations.

He said the event would also provide an opportunity for media practitioners, particularly sports journalists, to unwind after spending long periods reporting and celebrating the achievements of others.

“The 2026 SWAN Sports Week is to provide an opportunity for media practitioners, especially sports journalists, to celebrate themselves after a long period of reporting and celebrating others.

“On the first day, we are going to compete in table tennis, Ludo and draughts between SWAN members and our friends, while on the second day, we will step it up to 5-Aside cage football medley.

“We want to specially appreciate our major partners, Cosmilla Hotel and Suites Sports Arena Awka, for providing the best facilities and environment for this sporting engagement.

“It will be the first and best of its kind because we have not had such in Anambra,” he said.

The SWAN chairman called on sports lovers, friends of the media and prospective partners to take advantage of the event to enjoy quality sporting activities while promoting their brands.

He said the initiative was expected to strengthen relationships among journalists, their friends and other stakeholders through sports.
