# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Nnanna Oji Ama has host stakeholders from Anambra South Senatorial District at a strategic security interactive meeting at Anaedo Hall, Nnewi
The engagement is part of the Command’s renewed strategy of deepening community-based and intelligence-led policing through sustained collaboration with traditional rulers, political and community leaders, youth groups, religious bodies, business communities, sister security agencies and other critical stakeholders.
Speaking, CP. Oji Ama reiterates that effective policing requires the collective support and partnership of the people, assuring residents that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, preventing crime, and maintaining peace and public order throughout the State.
The Commissioner notes that this security stakeholders meeting in the senatorial district is continuous and encourages residents to actively participate in the engagement and contribute meaningfully towards building a safer and more secure Anambra State.
The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to identify emerging security challenges, share actionable intelligence, strengthen inter-agency and community collaboration, and develop practical strategies for enhancing public safety across Anambra South.
In attendance were stakeholders from the seven local government areas in Anambra South Senatorial District, Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Orumba South.
# ‎The local government chairman of Aguata Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike has been honoured with an Award of Appreciation for his leadership and contributions to the development of the area.
The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr Samuel Ezeofor, presented the award at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Achina, during activities marking the 10th anniversary of the dedication of the church building, curate’s quarters and vicarage.
Presenting the award, Bishop Ezeofor commended Ofobuike for his commitment to the development of the local government and his responsiveness to the needs of residents.
The bishop described the mayor’s leadership as people oriented and worthy of recognition, urging him to sustain his commitment to service.
Responding, Dr. Ofobuike described the honour as a call to greater service and pledged to continue working in the interest of the people.
“I consider this honour a call to do more for our people and provide quality representation to Aguata Federal Constituency. With God, we will make our people proud,” he said.
# The Solution Innovation District (SID) welcomed Ms. Elsie Attafuah, Resident Representative of UNDP Nigeria, and her delegation to its permanent site in Awka.
They were received by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation and CEO of SID, Miss Chinwe Okoli.
Discussions centered on potential areas of more collaboration between UNDP Nigeria and the Anambra State Government in innovation, entrepreneurship, digital skills development, and youth empowerment.

Responding, Attafuah commended the progress at SID and expressed UNDP’s interest in strengthening and established partnership opportunities.
# Anambra State Government through the
Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has demolished houses and structures erected Illegally in Osile, Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.
The Ministry also carried out demolitions to remove fences blocking access roads to residential homes in Avomimi, Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka local government area and Ezumeri, Oraifite, Ekwusigo local government area.
Accompanied by security operatives, the
officials of the Ministry, stormed Ataoji Layout Ogbunike with bulldozer and pulled down illegal developments including buildings, shops and fences erected on government land.
In his message of felicitation, through his representatives, Hon. Akpua commended the leadership and members of the Women’s Wing for organising what he described as a remarkable demonstration of visionary leadership and commitment to the advancement of women and sustainable community development.
He emphasised that women remain central to the building of peaceful and prosperous societies, noting that the family is the first institution of learning and that women play a foundational role in nurturing values such as discipline, tolerance, integrity, resilience, and mutual respect.
The legislator further highlighted the growing importance of women in leadership and community development. According to him, societies flourish when women are empowered to contribute meaningfully to leadership, moral formation, economic development, social cohesion, and the preservation of cherished cultural values.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nnewi Unit Command, has filled a dangerous pothole along Ikemba Drive, Umuele Road, Umudim, Nnewi, in a proactive effort to prevent road crashes and ensure safer travel for motorists.
The exercise, carried out under the initiative “Safety on Nnewi Roads,” targeted a critical black spot that had posed a serious risk to road users.
The Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Asochukwu Damian Anayo, said the intervention became necessary due to the worsening condition of the road, which serves key locations including the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Permanent Site and the Customary Court, Nnewi.
Reacting, the Sector Commander, FRSC Anambra State Command, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, commended the Nnewi Unit Command for the swift and proactive intervention, describing it as a commendable demonstration of the Corps’ commitment to saving lives and preventing avoidable crashes. She further urged sustained collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure the permanent rehabilitation of the road.
Asekhauno explained that the action was a preventive measure aimed at reducing crash risks, while calling on the Nnewi North Local Government Council to carry out a permanent repair of the road.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to proactive road safety measures, public enlightenment, and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure safer roads.
Residents and road users commended the FRSC for the timely intervention, describing it as impactful and life-saving.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has directed the Ministry’s Anambra State Anti-Corruption Strategy (ANSACS) Committee to intensify efforts to promote transparency, accountability and ethical conduct in the ministry.
Ogugua gave the directive while receiving members of the committee on a courtesy visit to his office in Awka, alongside the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu. He urged the committee to ensure that civil servants were punctual, regular at work and discharged their duties in line with the Public Service Rules.
Speaking, the Chairman of the ANSACS Committee, Mr. Basil Ilegbunam, said the committee was established to identify and address loopholes within the ministry, including delays in processing official files, lateness to work, the use of inappropriate language in offices and the demand for gratification before official duties are performed.
Ilegbunam said the committee had organised a one-day sensitisation workshop to educate staff on integrity, accountability and its mandate, adding that suggestion boxes had been installed across the ministry to provide confidential channels for reporting suspected corrupt practices.
# Residents of Ukpor and surrounding communities have continued to benefit from the ongoing medical outreach providing free health screening and other basic healthcare services at General Hospital Ukpor.
The outreach, organised in collaboration with Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi), is aimed at bringing essential healthcare services closer to the people while encouraging residents to take regular health checks seriously.
The Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Anambra State Ministry of Health (DMLS), Vivian Ekweoba, described the outreach as a commendable initiative, expressing satisfaction that the programme was taking place at General Hospital Ukpor and providing residents with access to essential health screening services.
She noted that initiatives of this nature would help improve awareness about the importance of regular medical checks and encourage people to seek healthcare services when necessary.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of General Hospital Ukpor, Dr. Epuechi Vincent also expressed appreciation for bringing the outreach to the community.
He said the programme had not only provided residents with access to screening but had also increased awareness about the laboratory services available at the hospital.
According to him, residents can access important laboratory investigations, including full blood count and urinalysis, at subsidised rates at the hospital’s laboratory.
Principal Town Planning Officer, Mrs Ngozi Okwudili, who led the team, said the exercise was part of continued efforts to reclaim the government land developed by land grabbers and illegal occupants.
Okwudili, explained that owners of the more than 15 structures affected were duly notified about the intended demolition, adding that several notices were issued, asking the occupants to vacate from the area.
She added that the demolition at Avomimi, Enugwu Ukwu, followed due process after a court judgement ordered the ministry to remove a fence blocking access road to a residential building.
According to her, the ministry also carried out another demolition exercise in Oraifite, where an individual unlawfully erected a fence blocking access road to neighbour’s residential home.

# ‎The Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN),Ogbaru Local Government Area, Comrade Uzor Onyekachukwu Micheal, has urged youths to embrace unity, productivity, responsibility and meaningful participation in community development.

‎Comrade Uzor, made the call in a message marking the 2026 International Youth Day, describing young people as vital stakeholders and important contributors to present and future development.

‎According to Uzor, youths possess enormous potential to transform Ogbaru through education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology, innovation, leadership and active participation in community development initiatives.

‎The coordinator encouraged young people to choose hard work over excuses, unity over division, knowledge over ignorance and productivity over idleness, while taking responsibility for shaping their future.

# The Management of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has commenced an investigation into allegations of illegal disconnection of customers and extortion of money as a condition for reconnection by some of its field personnel, particularly within the Obosi District, as contained in a video currently circulating on social media.
The Management views the allegations seriously and has, as an immediate step, summoned the staff members whose photographs appeared in the video for interrogation and questioning as part of efforts to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
According to a release signed by Head, Communications FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Izunna Okafor, while the investigation is ongoing, the Management appeals to members of the public and customers of the Company to remain calm and allow the appropriate process to take its course.
“FirstPower also wishes to encourage any customer who may have experienced illegal disconnection, extortion or any other unprofessional conduct allegedly perpetrated by its staff to come forward with verifiable evidence to assist the investigation.
“Such complaints and evidence may be submitted at the nearest FirstPower District Office. Customers may also send their complaints and supporting evidence via WhatsApp or text message to the Company’s dedicated whistleblowing number: 08161652465.
# Hon. Jude Ejikeme Akpua, Member Representing Njikoka two Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly and Deputy Majority Leader who seeks re-election has attended the landmark Summit of the Abagana Welfare Union – Women’s Wing (AWUWW), where he celebrated the invaluable contributions of women to leadership, family development, peacebuilding, and community progress.
The Summit, which brought together women of Abagana from home and the diaspora, provided a significant platform for intellectual engagement, dialogue, networking, and the exchange of ideas on issues affecting women and the wider community.
The theme, which focused on the role of women in building peaceful homes and strong communities, underscored the indispensable position of women in society.
