# National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 have received N1 million in cash prizes, business start-up support and mentorship opportunities at the closing ceremony of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Anambra State.

The programme featured a business proposal writing competition, where representatives of the 10 platoons presented their ideas before a panel of judges.

The competition provided Corps Members with an opportunity to demonstrate how the skills acquired through the SAED programme could be transformed into viable businesses.

Chinaza Abolade, AN/26B/— emerged winner with her proposal for a Naija-made small-business visibility initiative and received N500,000. Judith Inoyi, AN/26B/1949, came second and received N300,000, while Ogochukwu Obaje, AN/26B/1960, placed third with a catfish production proposal and received N200,000.

 

# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and the Nigeria Police Force have agreed to sustain continuous collaboration and operational synergy in Anambra State.

This resolution was reached on Friday, August 21, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, to Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Anambra State Command at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka.

In his remarks, the NSCDC State Commandant, Maku, commended CP Nnanna’s visit to the Command, noting that it was a significant step toward strengthening the existing relationship between the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

He highlighted the importance of maintaining effective communication and strengthening operational coordination and reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining inter-agency collaboration through intelligence sharing, joint operations, and coordinated strategies to combat crimes, criminalities and other emerging security threats in the state.

Commandant Maku underlined the significance of sustained synergy among security agencies in the fight against vandalism, terrorism, illegal mining, adulteration of petroleum products, insurgency, banditry and other forms of criminality in the country. He noted that effective collaboration, timely sharing of credible information and coordinated operations remain essential to maintaining peace and security in Anambra State.

He assured the CP of strengthened and more effective collaboration and a close working relationship, particularly in ensuring maximum security and safety for Anambra residents.

In his speech, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, while appreciating the NSCDC State Commandant for receiving him and his entourage, said the essence of the visit was to formally introduce himself and foster better coordination and eliminate possible friction between the operational teams of both law enforcement agencies.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the existing co- ownership between the NSCDC and the Police in combating crimes in Anambra State. He also solicited the continued support and cooperation of the Corps, stressing that sustained collaboration among security agencies is essential to creating a safer and crime-free Anambra State.

 

# The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of a 56-year old man, Mr Kelechi Madu, in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area of the State.

The revelation followed the arrest of his friend, Mr Ifeanyi Nwankwo, 32 years old, who allegedly confessed to plotting the murder and engaging two others to execute the act.

Tochukwu Ikenga, following the report, on 18th August 2026 from the wife of the deceased that her husband had gone out on the evening of 17th August 2026 and had not returned home, Police operatives, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group and the deceased’s family, immediately commenced inquiries and a search operation to establish his whereabouts.

“In the evening of same day, however, the wife returned to the station in distress and reported that her husband had been found dead in a nearby bush at Umuobi, Awkuzu.

” Police operatives immediately mobilized to the scene, where the deceased was found lying lifeless with a deep axe cut to his head. The corpse was subsequently evacuated and deposited in the hospital for preservation.

“In the course of the investigation, the Command arrested Mr. Ifeanyi Nwankwo, a friend of the deceased, who confessed to his involvement in the planning and killing of Mr. Kelechi Madu.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly obtained money fraudulently from the deceased under the guise of assisting him to acquire a piece of land. In an attempt to conceal the alleged fraudulent transaction and suppress the money obtained from the deceased, the suspect reportedly hired two other persons to murder him”. Ikenga stated in a press statement.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be intensified to identify and arrest all persons involved in the conspiracy and murder.

“The Command is determined to ensure that every person connected to the crime is brought to justice.

“The Command further assures the people of Anambra State that it will continue to strengthen intelligence-led policing and community partnership to prevent violent crimes, unravel criminal activities and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

 

# The Anambra State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development continued its urban regeneration enforcement in Aguluzuigbo, Anocha Local Government Area.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, Head of Development Control, Ngozi Okwudili, condemned the increasing cases of land grabbing and violations of planning regulations across the state.

Okwudili explained that a fence was demolished in Ifite Aguluzuigbo because it blocked an access road leading to a residential house, making the enforcement necessary.

She added that land grabbing and failure to observe approved building setbacks remain major challenges affecting orderly physical development across the state.

The enforcement team also marked illegal structures and shanties from Agulu to Ekwulobia for encroaching on pedestrian spaces and utility walkways .

According to Okwudili, the required 42.5-metre road dimension setback was not maintained after the construction of the roads prompting the action to prepare the corridor for government pedestrian walkway projects.

In the same vein, the team also inspected the ongoing building projects at Nawfia Market and Ekwulobia Roundabout, where construction allegedly continued without the required planning approvals and building permits.

Okwudili reiterated that no building should begin without official approval, saying that the law applies equally to individuals, organisations, and government agencies.

 

# The President, Akwuukwu Improvement Union AIU Women’s Wing, Mrs. Sussana Ezeh has appealed to members, community leaders, government agencies, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support the establishment of Palm oil mill, Cassava Processing Plant and other initiatives of the Inyom Akwuukwu leadership.

Mrs. Ezeh while speaking during the 2026 August Women’s Meeting held at the Women’s hall, Akwuukwu in Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, said that the projects and other prosperous initiatives would make life less stressful for Akwuukwu Women and children.

Ezeh maintained that the Palm oil and Cassava processing plants would be established on the plot of land recently alloted to the women wing by the town union through the AIU President General, Sir Udoka Ejiakor.

According to her, other matters requiring attention and support include, Prayers and Spiritual Support for the goals and objectives of the union. Continued Promotion of Peace, Love, and Unity among women and the wider community.

 

# The Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), Obi of Obosi, has pledged the Council’s support for the Anambra State Pilgrims Office’s grassroots pilgrimage and religious tourism initiatives.

The monarch gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pilgrims, Hon. Barr. Odira Ezeh, and his delegation at the Obi of Obosi Palace.

Barr. Ezeh explained that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration seeks to make government-sponsored pilgrimages more inclusive by extending opportunities to traders, rural farmers, widows and other less privileged citizens whenever sponsorship becomes available.

He said ongoing reforms include upgrading the Blessed Michael Iwene Tansi Shrine, Aguleri, into a world-class religious destination, establishing Pilgrims Exchange Programmes and introducing a Pilgrimage Lottery Scheme to encourage wider participation and boost tourism.

The SSA appealed to traditional rulers across Anambra’s twenty-one local government areas to identify deserving beneficiaries for pilgrimage programmes while promoting faith, integrity, unity and responsible citizenship within their respective communities.

Responding, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III commended the Soludo administration for strengthening pilgrimage administration, expressing concern over increasing involvement of some youths, traders and commercial drivers in idol worship, strange rituals and foreign deities.

The traditional ruler maintained that properly organised government-backed pilgrimages would encourage moral reorientation and spiritual renewal, while emphasising that preserving authentic Igbo culture should never be confused with promoting idol worship.

 

# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, summoned the Area Commander and all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) serving within Onitsha to his office in Awka for a high-level supervisory meeting, following the incident that occurred yesterday, 19th August 2026, at Head Bridge, Onitsha.

The meeting formed part of the Commissioner’s ongoing efforts to strengthen operational supervision, accountability and professionalism within the Command, particularly in Onitsha, one of the State’s major commercial centres.

During the meeting, CP Nnanna directed the DPOs to provide detailed briefings on the security situation and policing activities within their respective areas of responsibility, with particular emphasis on measures being taken to prevent and address unprofessional conduct by officers and men under their command.

The Commissioner made it clear that any police officer found abusing the powers entrusted to him or engaging in conduct inconsistent with the standards of the Nigeria Police Force would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with established regulations.

CP Nnanna reiterated his zero-tolerance policy towards unprofessional conduct, stressing that no individual or group of personnel would be allowed to undermine the trust and confidence that members of the public place in the Nigeria Police Force.

He further charged the DPOs to strengthen internal supervision, maintain effective command and control, ensure strict compliance with professional standards and promptly address genuine complaints from residents, traders and business owners within their areas of responsibility.

The Commissioner assured the good people of Onitsha and the entire State that the Command remains committed to providing effective, professional, accountable and people-oriented policing.

He also encouraged members of the public to report security concerns and genuine complaints through the appropriate channels, including the Commissioner of Police’s dedicated WhatsApp line: 09169531886. He assured that all credible complaints received would be given the necessary attention and appropriately investigated.

 

# ‎Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), through its Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit, has partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to establish a Road Safety Special Marshals Unit at the university and its environs.

‎The partnership was disclosed in a press release issued and signed by the Head of the Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit, Dr. Afamnede Godfrey Oguechuo, who described the initiative as an opportunity for staff and members of the university community to contribute to road safety and emergency response.
‎
‎Under the arrangement, the FRSC has approved a 75 per cent discount on registration fees for 25 qualified individuals from COOU who wish to join the FRSC Special Marshals.
‎
‎Dr. Oguechuo urged young, vibrant and service-oriented members of staff to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that participation would offer avenues for community service, professional development and contribution to national road safety efforts.
‎
‎He explained that certified Special Marshals would receive structured training in traffic management, accident response and road safety advocacy, among other areas relevant to their responsibilities.
‎
‎The initiative will also provide participants with opportunities to take part in road safety campaigns, workshops, seminars and other programmes organised under the FRSC volunteer structure.
‎
‎According to the Unit, the partnership is expected to strengthen road safety awareness within the university and surrounding communities, promote responsible road use and enhance emergency response efforts.

# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has continued to review the operational circumstances surrounding the recent incident at the Onitsha Head Bridge, where some persons allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in gunshot injuries.

As part of the ongoing review, the Commissioner has been evaluating the operational strategy, conduct and deployment of the personnel involved, with a view to determining whether established operational procedures, rules of engagement and professional standards were fully complied with.

CP Nnanna has reiterated that the command will not compromise professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in the discharge of police duties. He stressed that officers and men must exercise restraint, sound judgment, and professionalism, particularly during sensitive operations involving members of the public.

The Commissioner further emphasized that while police personnel have a statutory responsibility to prevent crime, maintain public order and effect lawful arrests, such responsibilities must at all times be carried out within the framework of the law and established operational guidelines.

The Command has, therefore, commenced a comprehensive review of the incident and the operational procedures surrounding it. The outcome of the review will guide any further administrative or operational action that may become necessary.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner has directed that the welfare and medical condition of the injured victim continue to receive appropriate attention, while efforts are being made to establish fully and objectively the circumstances surrounding the incident.

CP Nnanna assures the people of Anambra State that the command remains committed to professional, accountable, and people-oriented policing. He also emphasized that the command will protect officers and men who, in the lawful discharge of their duties, act professionally and within the limits of the law.

# Onitsha is set for a major transportation facelift as construction advances on the Omambala Line Inter-State Bus Terminal at Bridge Head, a project stakeholders say will redefine the commercial gateway to Anambra State.

The terminal, being championed by the Managing Director of Omambala Line Limited, Chief Chukwuemeka Ofozoba, is sited on 15 plots of land near Hero Junction, Bridge Head. Officials describe it as more than just another motor park, but a bold intervention aimed at tackling traffic congestion, indiscriminate roadside loading, and environmental disorder that have long plagued the area.

According to Ofozoba, the facility is designed to accommodate about 300 vehicles at a time entering Onitsha from the Asaba axis. It will feature dedicated sections for different vehicle categories, a large cargo bay, spacious parking area, and comfortable passenger waiting lounges.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, the terminal will have three gates, one entrance and two exit points. Solar-powered lighting, security posts, modern toilet facilities, a drainage system, and a grand entrance gate are also part of the design to give travelers comfort and safety.
