Music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has said that meeting singer Ayra Starr changed his life, in a response to online praise for his role in her career.
The Mavin Records founder reacted on X to a post by user @_Fabianszn, who shared an old photograph of the singer and wrote that Don Jazzy had “saved” her from a possible future teaching kindergarten children.
In his reply, Don Jazzy described the impact as mutual. “I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle o,” he wrote. “She has most definitely changed my own life too. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl.”
Don Jazzy signed Ayra Starr to Mavin Records in 2020 after her freestyle videos and song covers went viral on Instagram. The partnership has since produced several successful releases that elevated both the artist’s international profile and the label’s standing in the Afrobeats industry.
The exchange highlights the reciprocal nature of the relationship between the producer and one of his label’s most prominent talents, years after their initial discovery.
