The Lagos State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The guild described him as a notable figure whose contributions to Nigerian cinema spanned more than three decades.
In a statement issued on behalf of its chairman, executives and members, AGN Lagos praised Ogogo’s distinctive screen presence, commanding voice and dedication to authentic Nigerian stories.
“Ogogo’s death is a huge loss to the creative industry. He represented excellence, integrity and the golden era of Nollywood. We celebrate his life, his works and the indelible mark he left on our industry,” the statement said.
Beyond acting, the guild said he served as a mentor to younger practitioners, a disciplined professional on set and a strong advocate of Yoruba culture and Nigerian values.
AGN Lagos extended condolences to Hassan’s family, the national leadership of the guild, the wider Nollywood community and fans worldwide. It prayed for the repose of his soul and strength for his family.
The chapter said details of a befitting tribute and funeral arrangements would be announced later after consultations with the family and the national body.
