# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has commended the prompt response and community support that contributed to the arrest of a 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu.
20 year old pascal is alleged to have murdered his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.
The Commissioner of Police particularly commended the family members, community members, Police operatives and Vigilante personnel for their prompt response and cooperation. He noted that effective community participation, timely information sharing and strong partnership between the Police and local communities remain important to successful policing and the protection of lives and property.
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the CP directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and comprehensive review, with a view to establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that all relevant facts are properly established.
The Commissioner assured the family and members of the public that the investigation will be conducted professionally, thoroughly and diligently, in accordance with the law, and that the suspect will be made to face due process upon conclusion of the investigation.
# An All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, stakeholder in Enugwu-Ukwu, Chief Emmanuel Atuegbu, has supported the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, ABS Chapel, and pledged continued collaboration with the chapel towards promoting the welfare and professional development of journalists.
Chief Atuegbu was one of the Special Guests of Honour at the Congress, held at the Film Academy Hall, ABS Headquarters, Aroma, Awka.
Speaking at the event, Chief Atuegbu described journalists as critical partners in community and national development, noting that the media plays an important role in informing and educating the public, as well as giving visibility to issues that require attention.
He expressed willingness to continue supporting initiatives of the ABS NUJ Chapel, particularly programmes aimed at advancing the professional development and welfare of journalists.
The APGA stakeholder also encouraged journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession and remain committed to accurate, balanced and responsible reportage.
# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama on Wednesday 26th August 2026, led an observation patrol across parts of the State.
CP. Oji Ama also paid unscheduled visits to some Police Stations within Awka, as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen operational supervision, assess the readiness of personnel and ensure effective service delivery, particularly ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled to hold across the State on Saturday, 29th August 2026.
During the visits, the Commissioner personally inspected the operational environment of the stations, interacted with personnel on duty and assessed their level of preparedness, alertness and responsiveness to security concerns within their respective areas of responsibility.
He also reviewed the general conduct of officers and men, stressing the importance of professionalism, discipline, courtesy and respect for the rights of citizens before, during and after the elections.
CP Nnanna reiterated that effective policing is anchored on public trust, accountability and professionalism. He therefore charged personnel to remain vigilant, politically neutral, responsive and committed to their constitutional responsibilities, while ensuring that their conduct and actions contribute positively to the safety, credibility and peaceful conduct of the Local Government Elections.
The Commissioner further directed officers and men to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism in all engagements with members of the public, political actors and other stakeholders. He emphasised that the Command will continue to encourage and reward conduct that promotes quality policing, community partnership and public confidence.
He, however, warned that acts of indiscipline, misconduct, extortion, corruption, political bias or any other form of unprofessional behaviour will not be tolerated.
CP Nnanna assured the people of Anambra State that the Command is fully committed to providing adequate security for the Local Government Elections. He stated that the Command will continue to strengthen operational supervision, visibility and strategic deployment across the State to safeguard lives and property, protect critical infrastructure and ensure that residents are able to exercise their civic responsibilities in a peaceful and secure environment.
The Commissioner of Police also called on residents, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies, obey the law and refrain from acts capable of disrupting the peace before, during and after the elections.
# The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has announced an upward review of its annual health insurance premium and identification card fees, effective from September 1st.
The Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr Augustine Ezeka, disclosed this, explaining that the annual premium has been increased from ₦12,000 to ₦18,000, while the identification card fee has risen from ₦500 to ₦1,500.
According to him, the new rates will bring the total cost of fresh registration to ₦19,500, comprising the ₦18,000 annual premium and ₦1,500 identification card fee.
Dr Ezeka urged members of the public, existing enrollees and other stakeholders to take note of the revised fees and make the necessary arrangements ahead of the implementation date. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to expanding access to quality, affordable and sustainable healthcare services for Ndi Anambra.
# Anambra has recorded another achievement in education as Mr. Ifetike Chekwube Hope, a technical teacher at Government Technical College, Onitsha, emerged as the Overall Best ICT Driven Teacher in Africa 2026.
Ifetike received the award at the African Teachers Excellence Award (ATEA) Gala Night, held as part of the African Teachers Festival 2026 at the UBEC Digital Centre, Abuja.
The award recognises his commitment to innovative teaching and effective use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance learning and classroom engagement.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Ifetike described the award as a significant milestone in his teaching career.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Udoji Amedu, has urged corps members to embrace cultural diversity, uphold discipline and remain committed to hard work as they serve their host communities.
Amedu made the call during the Cultural Carnival for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members in Anambra State.
He described language as an important part of cultural identity, encouraging the corps members to learn, appreciate the traditions and values of their host communities during their service year.
The commissioner urged them to uphold good character and diligence, citing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s mantra, “Aka aja aja na-ebute ọnụ mmanụ mmanụ,” which underscores the dignity and rewards of hard work.

# The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde Adekunle, on Wednesday, 26th August 2026, convened a strategic tactical digest session with all Operational Commanders of the Command at the State Command Headquarters, Awka, Anambra State.
The operational review, which brought together Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Commanders, Composite Commanders, and Heads of Departments and Units, was convened to evaluate the security situation in the State and reposition the Command for more effective service delivery.
Commandant Maku expressed appreciation to the Operational Commanders for their dedication, professionalism, and outstanding performance in discharging their lawful duties. He specifically commended personnel for the sustained efforts being made in the fight against vandalism, illegal dealings in petroleum products, illegal mining, and the prevention of quackery in private guard companies across the State.
He also acknowledged the prompt response to distress calls and emergencies in disaster management, and further noted that improved community engagement and public trust-building initiatives have strengthened the relationship between the Corps and the public.
The NSCDC State helmsman noted that the relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in the State are direct results of the teamwork and commitment of the Commanders and their personnel.
# The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved a series of measures aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability, economic development and governance as the state prepares to mark its 35th anniversary.
The decisions were reached at the Council’s 10th meeting of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second term, held at the Light House, Awka.
Anambra State will mark 35 years of its creation on Aug. 27, under the theme, “Our Environment, Our Future.” According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, the anniversary celebration will focus on efforts to build a clean and green Anambra while drawing attention to environmental challenges facing the state.
He said major activities for the anniversary would include a tree-planting campaign and a media chat with Governor Soludo. The council also approved a regulatory framework for cooperatives in the state, aimed at establishing minimum operational standards for viability, scalability and protection of members’ investments.
The framework, according to the statement, would strengthen the Cooperative Federation of Anambra State (COFAS) in carrying out its responsibilities and promote more organised contributions by cooperatives to the state’s economic growth.
# The Anambra State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has clarified developers that payment of an assessment fee does not automatically confer approval or grant a development permit.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, stated this in a press statement.
According to the Commissioner, many developers mistakenly assume that payment of the assessment fee amounts to the approval of their building plans or the issuance of a development permit.
He explained that Section 19 of the Physical Planning Regulations clearly states that payment of an assessment fee does not amount to the grant of a building permit, as the fee is strictly an application fee.
Barr. Ojukwu further noted that the Ministry’s Legal Department may raise administrative queries where proposed building plans violate the approved building coverage area or where the required certification from COREN-registered engineers or ARCON-registered architects is lacking.
# The Anambra State Chapter of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) has emphasized the dire need for managers and purveyors of information to be mindful of the contents they dish out to members of the public.
This was the crux of the matter at a one-day summit organised by the association at the Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna Legacy Building Unizik FM, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka with the theme ” Communication For Inclusive Development: Connecting Communities And Policy For Sustainable Change.”

Addressing participants at the summit, the first female professor of mass communication in subsaharan Africa and current Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Paul University Awka, who is also a member of Board of Trustees of ACSPN, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, said that citizen journalism and the social media have constituted very serious challenge to ethical journalism.
# The Local Government Chairman of Dunukofia Area, Barrister Chijioke Ozumba have empowered over one thousand indigent women with financial support to boost their petty businesses.
Barr. Ozumba distributed the funds during the third edition of the Dunukofia Women August Summit held at the local government headquarters in Ukpo,
The local government chairman also extended financial support to all community women leaders in Dunukofia in appreciation of their contributions to the development of the local government and the Soludo-led administration.
The Dunukofia Mayor disclosed that his administration would, by November this year, commence the second phase of the economic empowerment programme, where over one thousand women would receive one hundred thousand naira each to support their petty businesses.
He commended the Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo initiative, the brainchild of Dr. Nonye Soludo, which is coordinated in Dunukofia by his wife, Mrs. Okwuchukwu Ozumba, for its support to his administration, and appreciated individuals and groups who contributed to the success of the programme.
