# The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has extolled the contributions of successive governments and the people of the state to its growth and development over the past 35 years.
Udeze stated this in a goodwill message to the government and people of Anambra State on behalf of the State Legislature as the state celebrates the 35th anniversary of its creation.
The Speaker said Anambra had witnessed tremendous growth driven by the hard work, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of its people, as well as the purposeful leadership of successive administrations, including the present administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
He noted that the state had evolved through various stages of development and remained one of Nigeria’s most important states, particularly in the areas of economic development, rule of law, legislation and good governance.
Udeze paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of Anambra State for their relentless efforts towards its creation, praying for continued peace, unity and sustainable development across the state.
He also acknowledged what he described as the bold steps being taken by Governor Soludo towards building a state that would become the envy of Africa in the next 35 years.
The Speaker highlighted the contributions of prominent Anambra indigenes to the political and economic development of Nigeria, citing the state’s role in producing Nigeria’s first President, the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe; former Vice President, the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme; and foremost Nigerian businessman, the late Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was regarded as one of the wealthiest Black Africans in the 1950s and 1960s.
He said the contributions of these distinguished citizens had further cemented Anambra’s pride of place in Nigeria’s history.
Udeze assured the people of the state’s continued commitment by the Legislature under his leadership to enacting laws and adopting resolutions that would positively impact development and improve the well-being of citizens.
He therefore urged Anambra residents to reciprocate the administration’s development efforts by giving Governor Soludo the necessary support, while shunning acts capable of tarnishing the image and reputation of the state.
# FIDA Anambra State Branch visited the “Ada Aguleri” Women Association as part of our continuing efforts to take legal awareness and education to the grassroots.
The women were educated on some of the important laws that protect individuals, families, women, and children in Anambra State, including; The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended; The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law of Anambra State, 2017; The Child’s Rights Law of Anambra State, 2004; and the Widowhood Law of Anambra State, 2005.
The relevant provisions of these laws were carefully explained and analysed, including the penalties and consequences for violations. The women were attentive, they engaged and were happy to receive us. They asked meaningful questions and participated actively throughout the session.
# In his efforts to support community development, the Mayor of Aguata Local Goverement Area and candidate for House of Representatives (Aguata Federal Constituency), Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, commissions a road, public water borehole and solar street lights executed by Chief Chris Ezeoguine.
Over the years, Chief Ezeoguine has contributed immensely to community development and peace building in his community, Umuchu, and even beyond.
Reacting to the philanthropic gestures, the Mayor stated, “Chief Ezeoguine has continued to support numerous projects and programmes of the #AGreaterAguata agenda.
“We cannot thank him enough! In support of his efforts, I approved a non-renewable status for the registration of the the road and as well committed to partnering with him and other good-spirited ndi Aguata for more provisions in our communities”.
# The Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has reassured the people of Nnewichi Community of his administration’s commitment to supporting progressive ideas and community-driven development initiatives.

He congratulated His Highness, Obi George Onyekaba, Obidiugwu of Nnewichi, and the entire community on the successful hosting of this year’s festival, describing it as a testament to the unity and cultural pride of Ndi Nnewichi.
The Mayor also pledged his administration’s support towards ongoing and proposed building projects in the community, noting that partnering with communities is key to delivering impactful governance at the grassroots.
In his response, the President of Nnewichi Community, Engr. Sir Emmanuel Chukwueloka expressed profound appreciation for the Mayor’s kind gesture.

# The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) says a total of 22 Mayoral candidates and 346 Councillorship candidates will be participating in the upcoming local government election in Anambra State billed to hold on Saturday, 29th August 2027.
Addressing Newsmen in Awka the Anambra State Capital, the Commissioner in-charge of Information and Publicity, Chief Tony Chinedu announced that the Commission would introduce Yes/No ballot in all the Council Areas where sole candidate exited, stating that the ruling party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had 21 Mayoral candidates while Young Progressives Party (YPP) had a candidate in Anambra East Local Government Area.
He explained that the Electoral Act empowered the Commission to adopt Yes or No Ballot system where only one candidate exited, saying normal election would be conducted in Anambra State where the winner takes it all.
According to him, ‘If a candidate fails to score the highest number of Yes and also score 2/3 majority the election would be declared inconclusive. If no ballots outweigh that of the Yes Ballot, the candidate will automatically step aside and wait for a fresh election in that locality.
# The Nigerian Navy has completed a multipurpose outdoor sports arena to support youth development, talent discovery and community growth in Eziowelle, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The representative of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Semiu Adepegba, who is the Chief of Communications and Information Technology, said the project reflected the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to effective civil-military cooperation and the welfare of communities.
He explained that the Chief of Naval Staff’s Quick Impact Project Scheme was designed to provide critical infrastructure, strengthen the relationship between the Navy and citizens and positively project the service within society.
The representative said the multipurpose arena, which provides facilities for football, handball, basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis and badminton, would create opportunities for youths to develop their talents while promoting healthy recreation and community interaction.
The facilitator, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Anakwe, said the project was built in loving memory of his late father, a former captain of Nigeria’s national football team, the Red Devils, from 1956 to 1958.
Rear Admiral Anakwue noted that his father lived for the country, community and sports, adding that the facility was his way of preserving his father’s values of discipline, teamwork, service and giving back to society.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Architect Okey Ezeobi, says the ongoing transformation of the ministry’s compound is part of the state’s broader vision of building a prosperous, livable and smart mega city.
Ezeobi said the transformation was not intended merely to give the government facility a facelift, but to demonstrate the standard of environment the administration wants to create across Anambra State.
According to him, the current development remains a work in progress, with a much higher standard still being targeted.
He said his minimum benchmark is the type of corporate environment associated with leading multinational organisations, citing Shell’s Port Harcourt facility as an example of the level of excellence he wants to achieve.
The Commissioner stressed that the government cannot continue with the old approach of doing things as usual when the objective is to build a modern and competitive Anambra.
# The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, Dr. Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, has secured the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) Out-of-Home Political Campaign Permit ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The permit, issued in preparation for the election scheduled for January 16, 2027, was presented to Ekwunife on behalf of ANSAA by the agency’s Assistant General Manager and Officer-in-Charge, Engr. Ngobili Chika.
The approval authorises the APC Senatorial Candidate to commence the lawful deployment of approved out-of-home political campaign materials across the Anambra Central Senatorial District, in accordance with ANSAA’s regulations and guidelines.
The permitted campaign materials include posters, banners, branded vehicles, public address systems, flyers, campaign T-shirts, street storm materials, rally branding and other approved political publicity materials.
The development underscores the importance of conducting political campaigns within the framework of existing laws and regulatory requirements as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
ANSAA is responsible for regulating signage and outdoor advertising activities across Anambra State, including political campaign advertisements.
With the permit secured, Ekwunife’s campaign team can now proceed with the deployment of approved outdoor campaign materials across Anambra Central in line with the agency’s regulations.
# Honourable Thaddeus Elukoha has commended Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for his intervention in restoring peace and normalcy to Isseke community, urging Ndi Isseke to support his candidacy for President General of Isseke Progressive Union in the September 28, 2026 leadership election.
Speaking during a press briefing, Elukoha said Isseke had endured years of crisis that disrupted businesses and social activities, forcing many residents to flee their homes.
According to him, more than 50 people were killed during the period, while houses, markets, schools, churches, hospitals, roads, electricity facilities and boreholes were either destroyed or vandalised.
He, however, said the situation had improved considerably following the intervention of the state government and security agencies.
Elukoha praised Governor Soludo for responding to the community’s appeal by strengthening security in the area, including the deployment of security personnel and the establishment of a Forward Operating Base.
He noted that the improved security situation had enabled residents to return home, businesses to reopen, and schools, churches and other social activities to resume.
The aspirant said he was personally involved in efforts to reclaim Isseke, including mobilising youths to support the restoration of peace and stability in the community.
He described the governor’s intervention as a major step towards reviving Isseke, but appealed to the state government to extend the rebuilding efforts to roads, electricity, markets, schools and hospitals.
On his ambition, Elukoha urged Ndi Isseke to vote for him as President General of Isseke Progressive Union on September 28, saying his experience in the community’s struggle had equipped him with the knowledge and commitment required to provide effective leadership.
He pledged to prioritise peace, unity, security, infrastructure and the welfare of the people, while urging all candidates and voters to ensure that the election was conducted peacefully, transparently and in the best interest of the community.
# The Federation of Old Nnewi Division (FOND) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting accountability, transparency and development through sustained engagement among elected public office holders, political aspirants and stakeholders.
The National President of FOND, Dr J.A.P. Okolo, stated this during a stakeholders’ engagement held at St. Cletus Church, Otolo Nnewi.
Okolo said the forum was designed to strengthen unity, political consciousness and constructive dialogue, while providing public office holders with an opportunity to present their stewardship and receive feedback from the people.
A major highlight of the event was an address by the member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Peter Uzokwe, who reaffirmed his commitment to quality representation.
Uzokwe highlighted some of his achievements in education, healthcare and infrastructure, including classroom renovations, scholarships, free medical outreaches, the planned distribution of more than 400 blood pressure monitors and installation of solar powered streetlights across communities in the constituency.
The lawmaker also advocated the introduction of skills acquisition programmes in correctional centres across the constituency, saying that equipping inmates with vocational skills would promote rehabilitation and facilitate their reintegration into society.
Uzokwe further declared his intention to seek a second term in office, citing the existing zoning arrangement for the Old Nnewi Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
