# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the vandalism of government property and the construction of structures on government-owned land in Onitsha South Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested on September 14, 2026, by operatives of the Corps in collaboration with the Agunechemba Security Outfit while allegedly vandalising government property in the area.
The Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the Command, SC Okadigbo Edwin, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, while reviewing the operational successes recorded by the Command during the week under review.
According to him, the suspects are Mr. Oseloka Anyaorah of Onitsha-Umuasi, who reportedly claimed to be the Chairman of Ogbo Family, as well as Mr. John Nwobodo and Mr. Ifeanyi Nwancho, who both claimed to be workers of Anyaorah at the site.
Items recovered from the suspects include a government signpost, zinc sheets, nails and other building materials.
Preliminary investigations, Okadigbo said, indicated that the suspects allegedly conspired to damage and remove portions of government infrastructure belonging to Onitsha South Local Government Area.
He added that the vandalised items had been recovered and were currently in the custody of the Corps.
Meanwhile, the NSCDC State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, condemned the alleged act, describing the vandalism of public property as economic sabotage against the government and people of Anambra State.
Maku reiterated the Corps’ commitment to protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across the state.
He directed that the suspects be properly profiled and charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commandant also called on traditional rulers, town union leaders and residents of Anambra State to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent further vandalism of government facilities.
# Rev. Fr. Ikezuе Jeremiah Chinuogu have
noted with dismay the recent statement concerning the recovery of a TVS King tricycle by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) in Anambra State.
Fr. Chinuogu in a press statement,
appreciated the role of the FRSC in vehicle verification and its contribution to combating vehicle-related crimes, it is necessary to clarify certain aspects of the report in order to prevent misunderstanding and avoid portraying an innocent purchaser as being connected to the alleged theft.
“Most importantly, the Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Ikezuе Jeremiah Chinuogu, of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka Diocese, Anambra State mentioned in the report should not be interpreted as suggesting that he stole, possessed, or knowingly acquired a stolen vehicle. His involvement was strictly that of a purchaser who acquired the tricycle through a transaction and subsequently cooperated fully when questions arose concerning its previous registration.
“It is also important to clarify that the FRSC official who came to the priest’s office in connection with the verification was Amobi Obidi, who handled the engagement and verification process.
“Furthermore, Nwafor Tochukwu and Nwoye Richard were witnesses to the hire-purchase agreement connected to the tricycle. Their role and the existence of the relevant transaction documents are important facts that should be considered in any account of the matter.
“The priest, upon being contacted, did not evade the process or obstruct investigation. Rather, he cooperated with the authorities and presented the person from whom he purchased the tricycle for clarification. The vehicle was subsequently identified by the person claiming ownership, while the matter was referred to the appropriate security authorities for further investigation.
“It is therefore important that the public distinguish between being an alleged purchaser of a vehicle later discovered to have a questionable history and being responsible for the theft of that vehicle. These are entirely different matters.
# The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu II, at his palace in Awka.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Anyaehie said the purpose of the visit was to seek the royal blessing of the monarch, identify with the people of Awka as members of the host community, and strengthen the relationship between the university and the traditional institution.
He explained that the visit was particularly important because UNIZIK is situated in Awka, stressing the need for the university to maintain a strong and cordial relationship with the traditional institution and the people of the community.
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the contributions of Awka indigenes occupying strategic positions within the university and solicited the cooperation of the wider community for his administration.
Prof. Anyaehie also assured the Awka community that qualified indigenes would be given fair opportunities to gain admission into the university, provided they meet the stipulated admission requirements, including sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
According to him, the people of Awka should regard him as their brother, while the university would continue to operate as a responsible institution within its host community.
In his response, the traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Igwe Gibson Nwosu, prayed for the university and its leadership, using the kola nut in accordance with Igbo tradition.
Speaking through the Traditional Prime Minister, Ozo High Chief Benjamin Okoye, the monarch prayed that all obstacles confronting the university would become a thing of the past. He also expressed hope for a stronger and more beneficial collaboration between Awka Kingdom and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has conducted unscheduled visits to police divisions across the state as part of efforts to strengthen operational readiness, assess personnel preparedness and enhance effective policing at the grassroots.
The divisions visited included the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu; Dunukofia Police Station; Oyi Police Station; and the newly constructed Ogbunike Police Station.
During the visits, the Commissioner inspected the general condition of the facilities, arms, operational equipment and personnel readiness. He also assessed the level of security preparedness and responsiveness of officers and men in the various divisions.
CP Nnanna directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to sustain heightened alertness and ensure that personnel remain proactive, responsive and strategically positioned to promptly address emerging security threats within their respective Areas of Responsibility.
The Commissioner further ordered the DPOs to prioritise the proper maintenance and facelift of their stations, stressing that police facilities must remain clean, functional, orderly and conducive to effective service delivery.
He noted that the physical condition of police stations contributes significantly to public confidence and the quality of engagement between the Police and the communities they serve.
CP Nnanna also charged officers and men to maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, courtesy and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens, while remaining firm and decisive in the discharge of their lawful responsibilities.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led and community-oriented policing, assuring Ndi Anambra that the Command would continue to strengthen its operational strategies, deepen police visibility and sustain measures aimed at preventing crime and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
# One hundred youths in Onitsha, Anambra State have receiving electrical equipment and certificate of participation from the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, through the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
The empowerment followed a five-day intensive training on modern methods of electrical installation and maintenance, aimed at equipping the beneficiaries with practical skills and the tools needed to earn a sustainable livelihood.
The ceremony held at Ime Obi, Onitsha, was graced by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Member representing Onitsha North One Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Honourable Mimi Ikpeazu, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, among other dignitaries.
Speaking during the presentation of the equipment and certificates, Igwe Achebe, described the programme as an opportunity that fits into the broader efforts to develop and empower young people of Onitsha.
Igwe Achebe encouraged the youths to believe in themselves, noting that there is no substitute for hard work in the pursuit of success.
Speaking in an interview, the Research Engineer with NASENI, Engr. Madagi Udu-Carter, explained that the programme which has been ongoing over the years was designed to have a multiplier effect, as beneficiaries are expected to transfer the knowledge acquired to others in their communities.
According to him, the Onitsha beneficiaries were trained in modern electrical installation and maintenance, pointing out that some of the beneficiaries were already qualified electricians but lacked the tools to work, while others were apprentices who faced the challenge of acquiring equipment after completing their training.
# The Principal of Urban Secondary School, Nkpor, Mrs. Nkiru Okoye says that the free education policy of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration has continued to lead to a surge in student enrollment in government schools.
Speaking during monitoring of school resumption activities, Mrs. Okoye disclosed that the school’s population has risen from 1,600 to 2,300 and is still increasing
She explained that Governor Soludo directed that no item should be demanded for student registration.
According to her, most of the new students are non-indigenes, but the Governor gave an order that every child seeking admission should be admitted.
The Principal noted that the school has 75 graduate teachers who are working diligently and attributed the good performance of students in this year’s WAEC examination to the commitment of the teachers.
Mrs. Okoye urged parents to support the Governor’s vision for the education sector by providing school bags and exercise books for their children and wards, added that resumption tests were conducted and the school compound was cleared to get the students ready for the term.
# No fewer than 200 women in Anambra State received 4,000 Noiler birds as the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation (BATNF), in partnership with the state government, launched the Empower-Her Poultry Project in Awka.
The beneficiaries, drawn from across the state, received 20 Noiler birds each, a bag of poultry feed and veterinary drugs to enable them establish and sustain small-scale poultry enterprises.
The empowerment programme was formally flagged off at the Dr. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Agriculture.
The initiative, implemented by Ecofield, is targeted at strengthening the economic capacity of women, creating sustainable sources of income and improving the livelihoods of families across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, hailed BATNF for supporting the state’s women through what she described as a practical and sustainable empowerment intervention.
Commissioner Onyekesi said the project aligned with the administration’s commitment to moving women from dependency to economic productivity through initiatives that provide them with tangible assets and opportunities to generate income.
She commended Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for creating an enabling environment for programmes focused on women’s empowerment, noting that interventions such as the poultry project would contribute to stronger households and more resilient communities.
According to the Commissioner, the partnership demonstrates the importance of collaboration between government, development organisations and implementing partners in tackling economic challenges confronting women.
She assured that the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare would continue to support initiatives that directly improve the welfare, dignity and economic wellbeing of women, particularly those at the grassroots.

Igwe Idigo while showering his royal blessings on the celebrant, said the move is a welcome development because life is about making increase and expansion, saying that it expects that the hotel will bring forth other blessings and create jobs for many people.
On his part, Anambra State Commissioner For Commerce, Mr Nonso Ebonwu who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Engr Micheal Obuekwe said the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration is gladdened by the citing of the hotel in Anambra, stating that the administration will continue to do everything possible to support local businesses to grow and advised other traders to invest in the state as the present administration is building a livable and prosperous homeland.
# The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mr. Nweze Tony Nwora, has condemned the alleged abuse of children in Akpaka, Onitsha, and appealed to members of the public to stop circulating videos relating to the incident.
Nwora made the appeal in a statement, saying he had followed developments surrounding the incident with concern and urged relevant security and law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the allegations.
He said the incident was disturbing, particularly because it involved children, and expressed concern about its possible impact on their wellbeing.
Nwora urged the authorities to establish the facts of the case and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice in accordance with the law.
He also appealed to residents and social media users to desist from sharing or resharing videos depicting the children or details of the alleged abuse.
According to him, further circulation of the material could expose the children to additional trauma, violate their privacy and undermine efforts to protect them.
The mayor reminded members of the public that the circulation of child alleged abuse material could constitute a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
He advised anyone who came across such material to report it to the appropriate authorities and the relevant social media platform rather than circulate it.
Nwora assured that the Onitsha North Local Government Council would work with relevant government agencies and institutions to ensure that the affected children received appropriate medical care, counselling and psychological support.
He said the council would support lawful measures aimed at protecting the children and helping them recover from the experience.
# The inauguration of the newly elected leaders of Ebonyi Unity Forum, Anambra State, and the celebration of their New Yam Festival held in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area, was a gathering that brought together Ebonyi indigenes from various parts of Anambra State and beyond.
The event attracted stakeholders, security personnel from various security agencies, women groups, friends, and delegates from Amawa Village, Ogbunike.
The Managing Director of SASA, Anambra State, Chief Monday Nwokoye, who chaired the occasion and hails from Okpoto in Ebonyi State, said the forum was formed to protect their collective interests, support one another, and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host state.
He charged all Ebonyi indigenes living in Anambra State to embrace peaceful co-existence, hardwork and uprightness and described the New Yam Festival as an age-long Igbo tradition.
In a welcome address presented by the President General of Ebonyi Unity Forum, Chief Moses Ofoke through the General Secretary of the Forum, Comrade Aloke Nnabuike, said Ebonyi indigenes in Anambra who have demonstrated competence, integrity and commitment to the development of the state should be given opportunities to contribute, irrespective of their state of origin.
Chief Ofoke also advised Ebonyians in Anambra to be good ambassadors of their state and encouraged people to return to agriculture for food security.
