Super Eagles began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday.
Madagascar took the lead in the 16th minute through Ehsan Kari, capitalising on a swift transition to silence the home crowd.
Nigeria equalised in first-half stoppage time when debutant George Ilenikhena scored in the first minute of added time, sending the sides into the break level at 1-1.
Moses Usor, another player making his senior international debut, sealed the comeback with the winner in the 65th minute.
The result gave coach Eric Chelle’s side a winning start in Group L, which also includes Guinea-Bissau and co-hosts Tanzania.
Nigeria will next travel to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, while Madagascar host Tanzania on the same day. Star striker Victor Osimhen missed the match through injury.
